The Vanguard Group, Valley Forge, PA, (1997-2008) Data Center Program Manager, 2008 2008
Designed and implemented a full Windows Server Virtualization Program, Data Center Footprint Reduction Program, Green Computing Program and International Global expansion. Delivered two proofs of concepts with business cases for application and desktop virtualization. Virtualized 50% of the 1100 Windows servers in 5 months. Decreased the total physical server inventory by 27 host devices. This is the first time in Vanguard's growth history that the year ended with fewer physical servers than which it started. Power consumption decreased by 20 kwh, yet 311 new guest servers were provisioned supporting our business growth. This program was calculated to extend the current life of the two data centers by 2 years cost deferring a $100 million dollar spend, and established the back drop for our future data center build. Authored the first White Paper on Green Computing, identifying the cost of power for our desktops exceeded the cost of power fo r our two data centers. This led to the implementation of a Power Management Program expected to save $1.6 million dollars in 2009. Opened a new 45 person sales office in London, UK and a 5-person office in Zrich, SW that accounted for two of 5 new offices slated for the next 3 years. Established Home Office Telephony standards for the company's future endeavors with telecommuting. This reduced Vanguard's overall Carbon Footprint earning Carbon Credits.
