Receiving Children, Receiving Christ

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. And he took the children in his arms and put his hands on them and blessed them, Mark 10:13-14, 16 NIV Taking time with children made a dramatic statement in Jesus culture. To spend time with children except in a formal setting was considered a waste of time. Jesus not only spent time with them but said that in order to receive the kingdom of God one must become like a little child.

The preschool and children ministries of our 57 churches are crucial. They fulfill the example Jesus set before us. The Montgomery Baptist Association counts it a privilege to help our churches in evangelism and the spiritual development of children. Recently two events took place where the MBA had an opportunity to resource and support the preschool and children ministries of our congregations. The first, Associational Bible Drill, was held at First Baptist Church, Sunday April 14th. Thirty-three children in grades 4-6 from eight MBA churches participated in this years drill. Twenty-nine children went on to qualify for the District Drill. Congratulations to the children who participated and also the Church Bible Drill Leaders who personify the priorities and commitment that Jesus asks of us. The second event was the Associations Vacation Bible School training, April 23rd at Eastern Hills Baptist Church. Fortysix VBS workers from 11 churches received training in LifeWays VBS theme, Colossal Coaster World. The MBA is anticipating a great VBS year in our churches. Last year approximately 31 churches conducted a Vacation Bible School enrolling more than 6500 children. Many children accepted Christ. We affirm our churches ministry to children and are grateful we can be a part of it. Pray for God to continue to bless our churches efforts in reaching more children for Christ.

Mission Serve Comes Back to Montgomery this summer from July 20-27th.
Five teams from around the United States will serve at Community of Hope, Forest Park Ministry Center, Family Promise and Urban Trec Ministry. LETS SHOW SOME SOUTHER HOSPITALITY! We could use your (churches, WMU groups, Sunday School classes, etc) help feeding them Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (7/22, 7/23, 7/25 & 7/26.) Teams will minister in the heat of the summer, so light, cool foods are preferable to hot lunches. Please prayerfully consider providing food for the teams.
