All the commandments of the son on the father are obligatory for men, but women are exempt, and all commandments
of a father on a son are obligatory for both men and women. Kehati: Our mishnah teaches general principles
regarding the commandments which women are obligated to observe and those from which they are exempt. and all
commandments of a father on a son such as "respect" and "honor": "respect" entailing not sitting in his place, and not
contradicting him, etc., and "honor" entailing helping him dress, serving him food, etc., are obligatory for both men and
women - both sons and daughters are obligated to fulfill these commandments.

24. He used to say: At five years old a person should study the Scriptures, at ten years for the Mishnah, at thirteen for the
commandments, at fifteen for the Talmud, at eighteen for the bride-chamber, at twenty for one's life pursuit, at thirty for
authority, at forty for discernment, at fifty for counsel, at sixty to be an elder, at seventy for gray hairs, at eighty for
special strength (Psalm 90:10), at ninety for decrepitude, and at a hundred a man is as one who has already died and has

Plant your seed in the morning, and in the evening, do not let your hand rest (Eccles. 11). There are several traditions
about this verse Rabbi Ishmael and Rabbi Akiva discuss this. Rabbi Ishmael says: If you have learned Torah in your
youth, study Torah in your old age, as you cannot know which one will persist, this or that, or whether they both alike
shall be good. Rabbi Akiva says: If you had students in your youth, take up disciples in your old age as well, as you
cannot know which ones will persist, these or those, or if they both alike shall be good.
Rabbi Akiva had twelve thousand students, from Acre to Antipatris, and they all died in one short space of time. Why?
They had their eyes narrow with each other. In the end Rabbi Akiva (only) had seven disciples: Rabbi Meirand Rabbi
Judah, Rabbi Yossi, Rabbi Shimon, Rabbi Elazar Shamoa, Rabbi Yochanan the Shoemaker R. Eliezer ben Jacob ... (a
variant version of this list is omitted here). R. Akiva said to them: My sons! The first set of students died only because
their eyes were narrow to each other. Heed not their actions. Stand and fill all the Land of Israel with Torah. ... And
from whom have you learned this lesson? Abraham, who had sons in his youth and took a wife in old age and brought
forth sons, as it is said, And Abraham took another wife
