By SHANNON CAULFIELD
The Marlton Sun
The second annual National
Night Out will be celebrated in
Evesham Township on Aug. 6 at
the township municipal building.
According to Barry Fitzgerald,
co-chair of Evesham National
Night Out, two K9 dogs will be at
the event providing a demonstra-
tion for guests. Additionally,
Bertuccis and Ritas will be serv-
ing free food.
Theyre our two big food spon-
sors, theyre not charging, its
going to be free, Fitzgerald said.
The National Night Out move-
ment began in 1983 to help height-
en crime awareness and preven-
tion, generate support for, and
participate in, anticrime pro-
grams, strengthen neighborhood
spirit and police-community part-
nerships and send a message to
criminals that neighborhoods are
organized and fighting back, ac-

Save money and make money Very simple

Save money and make money Very simple

Mayor Randy Brown, with the
unanimous support of council,
will be freezing the townships
payments owed to the Evesham
Township Board of Education,
Lenape Regional High School
District and the Evesham Town-
ship Fire District.
If you like your money, you
have to come sit down and have
responsive meetings with us,
Brown said.
The decision was made based
on the lack of support shown for
state Senate bill 1896, which
would make those entities re-
sponsible for tax appeal losses.
Brown is hopeful the move
brings attention to the town-
ships tax increase issue.
Brown is determined to make
those entities discuss a possible
resolution.
I think the structure of which
were asked to collect taxes is bro-
ken, Brown said. What I want
to know is what they will do to
help fix it.
The council has tabled intro-
ducing the 2013 municipal budget
numerous times, including at last
weeks meeting.
The proposed budget includes
a municipal tax increase of $59

F
inally, nine months after Super-
storm Sandy touched ground,
New Jerseys economy is gain-
ing momentum.
A report released last week by Wells
Fargo, the states second largest bank
by deposits, says that federal and in-
surance money flowing into the state
to aid in the Sandy recovery started to
pay dividends in the first half of 2013,
and should continue to propel the
economy for the rest of this year.
According to the report, the state
added 4,200 construction jobs from
January to June of this year. The
same time last year, the industry lost
4,500 jobs.
Its a great sign for the state. Gov.
Christie estimated New Jersey suf-
fered $37 billion in damage from the
storm. Approximately 22,000 homes
were left uninhabitable and 325,000
others were significantly damaged.
Now, in the dead of the summer,
with the start of hurricane season ap-
proaching again, construction is heat-
ing up, fueling the states overall eco-
nomic recovery.
The Wells Fargo report wasnt all
peachy, though. While New Jerseys
economy was significantly better in
the first half of this year compared to
last, it still lags behind national aver-
ages. Six percent of all mortgages are
in foreclosure, the second-highest rate
in the country behind only Florida.
Housing prices grew only 2.9 percent
year over year, while the national aver-
age stood at 12.2 percent. New Jerseys
unemployment rate dropped almost a
point in the last year, and that trend is
expected to continue, but it still sits at
8.7 percent compared to the national
average of 7.6 percent.
These stats beg the questions:
Should we compare New Jersey to the
rest of the country? Or should we just
compare the Garden State to itself ?
New Jersey is a very unique state in
that its economy is fueled strongly by
two major metropolitan regions whose
city is in another state. The economy
works differently here. Employment
works differently here. Elections work
differently here. So why, then, if we
are an outlier, must we compare our-
selves to others?
For once, we need to focus on our
own recovery, and ensure we are
adding as many jobs as we can, no
matter what our stats look like com-
pared to every other state.
Recovery finally catching a break
Considerable momentum gained in first half of 2013, report says
Your thoughts
Should we rejoice in the positive outlook
for New Jerseys economy? Or should
we be worried that we lag behind the
rest of the country? Let your voice be
heard through a letter to the editor.

lantic County Sheriff s Office.

If we were to get wholly reim-
bursed, we wouldnt have a tax
increase, Brown said.
Currently, the township has to
pay out $1.5 million in tax ap-
peals, according to Brown, and is
working on a temporary budget
based on the 2012 adopted budget.
If the township does not move
to adopt the budget on the states
timeline, someone will be sent in
to determine a budget for the
township, Bob Nehilla of Bow-
man Accounting Firm said at the
June meeting.
According to Brown, the bill
has not made any movement in
the senate.
Sen. Jeff Van Drew has re-
fused to create any committees to
work on the bill, Brown said.
Theres no reason he should-
nt put this in committee, Brown
said.
Van Drew could not be reached
for comment.
Brown isnt concerned with
possibly straining the townships
relationship with either boards
of education or the fire district,
citing current strong connections
with all three.
I cant worry about a relation-
ship. I need to do everything pos-
sible to make this township more
affordable, Brown said.
According to Evesham board
of education president Sandy
Student, the freeze has no imme-
diate effect on payroll or the 2013-
2014 budget in the short term,
which has already passed and
been approved.
I think the mayor has a very
valid issue. The goal of govern-
ment is for the common good,
and the common good is for all
the citizens, Student said.
According to Student, it will
not cause the board of education
to layoff any employees.
The other thing we have to
deal with is that the state does
not give us a method to budget,
save or refund money to the mu-

ing male.
On July 18 at 12:52 p.m., the Eve-

ed to the Ulta Cosmetics Store, 720
S. Route 73, for a shoplifting in
progress.
Investigation determined that a
male, in his 30s, bald head, wear-
ing a black t-shirt and khaki cargo
pants used a box-cutter to remove
security tags on six bottles of
mens Gucci cologne and two
bottles of womens Lancome
perfume, total value $640. He then
exited the store and fled in a

ing surveillance observed suspi-
cious activity in the area of Route
73 and Brick Road.
The investigation led to a vehi-
cle being stopped, at which time
investigators observed narcotics
and a weapon in plain view.
A subsequent search of the ve-
hicle by investigators resulted in
the discovery of prescription
pills, cash and a stun gun.
The suspect, age 19 of Marlton,
was charged with third-degree
distribution of prescription pills,
third-degree possession of pre-
scription pills and fourth degree
unlawful possession of a stun

Ravitz markets donates
goods to Operation
Yellow Ribbon
There are no true words that
can express the amount of grati-
tude felt all due to the overwhelm-
ing support and generosity pro-
vided from The Ravitz Family
Markets and their great staff and
customers of their Shop Rite
stores.
Operation Yellow Ribbon of
South Jersey is shipping large
care packages weekly to our
troops in Afghanistan.
All the kindness and efforts
provided during the month of
June at the five local Ravitz Fami-
ly Markets have helped us
tremendously with more than
2,000 pounds of treats and hy-
giene products as well as finan-
cial donations.
These items were then packed
and shipped with hopes of help-
ing raise the morale of our brave
women and men deployed in
Afghanistan and supporting Op-
eration Enduring Freedom.
Words written or stated are not
a true representation or a fair
way to show our true apprecia-
tion and amazement for all the
support and generosity displayed.
For many years now, the great
people at The Ravitz Family Mar-
kets have shown their commit-
ment to making the world a better
place.
For as long as we can remem-
ber, The Ravitz Family and the en-
tire staff at their ShopRite stores
have been the most consistent
force around in regard to giving
back to the community and help-
ing others.
On behalf of Operation Yellow
Ribbon of South Jersey, we thank
The Ravitz Family, their employ-
ees, and their customers for their
amazing efforts, generosity, and
for openly displaying their sup-
port to our all volunteer group
and to our U.S. Service Members
serving our country and provid-

From the bottom of our hearts
we thank The Ravitz Family Mar-

nicipality for shortfall or re-
fund, Student said.
If the township cut the district
off completely, it could potential-
ly create problems in the long
run.
Despite Browns confidence in
the freeze, if it were to continue
for a long period of time, it
would create tension, Student
said.
Were not in danger of laying
off employees or closing schools
because of the payment, Stu-
dent said.
We could not miss a Septem-
ber payment, though.
Were taxing our taxpayers
way too much, Brown said. My
first responsibility is to the 50,000
residents of this town. Period.
In other news:
Richard Hoff, attorney for the
owners of Tri-Town Plaza, is
fighting for the location to be in-
cluded in the redevelopment
plan.
According to Brown, the Tri-
Town Plaza could benefit by
doing its own repairs, rather
than add it to the redevelopment
program.
He noted the dilemma was a
difference of opinion and could
be solved without the assistance
of the township.
Hoff said he would continue to
fight the matter on behalf of his
client.
The next township council
meeting is scheduled for Aug. 6 at
6:30 p.m. at the municipal build-
ing.

If you've been wearing
dentures for a long time,
you know what the den-
ture look means. Not
everyone who wears den-
tures is old, but when den-
tures get old, they make you
look that way. Thin lips,
deep creases at the corners
of the mouth, a more
prominent chin these are
all signs of the denture
look.
Facelift Dentures is a
new technique. Mt. Holly
Family Dentistry is one of a
very few dental offices in
the US trained in this
process. It utilizes the prin-
ciples of neuromuscular
dentistry that we have, for
many years, used to help pa-
tients who suffer from
headaches and TMJ prob-
lems. We start with relaxed
facial muscles to determine
the most comfortable bite
position and the optimum
facial aesthetics. We build
the denture from that as a
starting point and with
those goals in mind.
Mt. Holly Family Den-
tistry has a lot of experi-
ence creating new smiles
for our patients. Dental
makeovers have been a cor-
nerstone of our practice for
many years. Now we can ex-
tend that service to denture
patients. We frequently get
notes and letters from
spouses and children of our
patients telling us what a
difference the new dentures
have made. Its an exciting
and gratifying process for
doctor and patient. For
more information, contact
us at 609-267-3230 or on line

National Night Out to celebrate
30th anniversary this year
site.
This is the 30th anniversary of
the national celebration.
According to an Evesham Po-
lice Department release, the pro-
gram was the brainchild of
NATW Executive Director Matt
A. Peskin. That first year, 400
communities in 23 states partici-
pated in National Night Out. Na-
tionwide, 2.5 million Americans
took part in 1983.
Participants turned on their
front porch lights to show their
solidarity with local law enforce-
ment.
The citizens were sending a
message that they would not tol-
erate crime in their neighbor-
hood.
In 2011, National Night Out in-
volved more than 37 million peo-
ple in 15,325 communities from all
50 states, U.S. territories, Canadi-
an cities and military bases
worldwide, according to the Na-
tional Night Out website.
A moon bounce and dunk tank
will be there for fun for the kids
along with face painting, a hula-
hoop contest and an array of
other kids activities.
Additionally, the police station
will be open for tours along with
SWAT, the D.A.R.E. truck, local
businesses, civic groups and
neighborhood organizations.
Crime prevention materials
and information will be on dis-
play and distributed by Neighbor-
hood Watch and Police Crime Pre-
ventions, the release said.
Fire trucks with the smoke
house will also be available
throughout the night.
There will also be a DJ in atten-
dance to entertain guests.
Im looking forward to a big-
ger turnout and making more
people aware of Neighborhood
Watch, Fitzgerald said. Its im-
portant to keep an eye on your
neighborhood.
According to Fitzgerald, Neigh-
borhood Watch meets once a
month to talk about whats going
on.
The most important aspect of
it is to keep an eye on whats
going on in your area. If residents
see anything out of the ordinary,
theyre instructed to call the po-
lice, he said.
A few hundred residents
turned out for the inaugural
event last year. Fitzgerald is hope-
ful for a bigger, better turnout for
this years celebration.
Everyone should expect a fun-
filled night with free food and ex-
citement, Fitzgerald said.
Everyone should get involved
and have fun.

Summer Stage Childrens Theatre
presents Under the Sea
Come be Part of Our World
as Summer Stage Childrens The-
atre journeys Under the Sea
with Ariel and friends in Disneys
The Little Mermaid, Jr.
Based on one of Hans Christian
Andersons most beloved stories,
with music by eight-time Acade-
my Award-winner Alan Menken,
Disneys The Little Mermaid,
Jr. will make a splash with audi-
ences July 31-Aug. 2.
In The Little Mermaid, Jr.,
Ariel (Kaitlin Fanelli of Marlton),
longs to leave her ocean home to
live in the human world. But first,
she defies her father, King Triton
(Alec Pizarro of Berlin), makes a
deal with the evil sea witch, Ursu-
la (Megan Kennedy of Deptford),
and must convince Prince Eric
(Joey Campbell of Deptford) that
shes the girl with the enchanting
voice. Along the way, Ariel re-
ceives help from her friends Se-
bastian (Sara Todd of Deptford),
Skuttle (Samantha Starkey of
Berlin) and Flounder (Jeffrey Red-
wanowski of Gloucester Town-
ship ). Brooke Shellock, director,
is thrilled with the opportunity to
direct the 70 cast members ap-
pearing in The Little Mermaid,
Jr.
It is exciting that Mainstage is
doing a production of The Little
Mermaid for the 25th anniver-
sary season because this show
was recently released for chil-
dren's theater and it is the first
time Mainstage is presenting it.
This being my 14th year at Sum-
mer Stage (as camper and every
level of directing staff), I am thor-
oughly enjoying reminiscing
about old shows, but it's also pret-
ty cool that we are creating brand
new memories in the same year,
said Shellock.
In honor of the 25th anniver-
sary, Ariel's grotto will be stocked
with an item from each show that
Summer Stage has done. Old
Summer Stagers, their parents,
and anyone who has ever seen a
Summer Stage show before will
be able to find a representation of
their favorite show somewhere in
the set and enjoy a bit of remi-
niscing of their own from the au-
dience. We will also have a life-
sized ship and a cameo appear-
ance from the other Disney
princesses!
Tickets are $9 for children/se-
nior citizens and $10 for adults.
Sign interpretation is available
at the Thursday morning show
for groups. For tickets, visit
www.mainstage.org or call 227-
3091. The remaining season in-
cludes Magic Up Our Sleeve,
sponsored by Harry Morgan, D.C.,
Aug.7-9. For The Little Mermaid
performances, children who dress
as a prince or princess will re-
ceive a ticket for one free item
from the concession stand.
New app. for reporting
tips to police
A new method of reporting
tips to the Evesham Police De-
partment has been added with
the launching of the ETPDTIP
smartphone app.
The new tool added to the de-
partments crime-fighting arse-
nal enables the public to anony-
mously share information via a
smartphone app.
Developed by CitizenObserver,
a St. Paul MN company, ETPDTIP
App puts a powerful new crime-
fighting tool into the hands of
our community for all ages and
demographics.
According to Acting Chief of
Police Christopher Chew, this ca-
pability is another step forward
in creating a safer community.
This technology will be avail-
able to residents free of charge.
This, along with our other
crime reporting tools, will help
citizens play an active role in
keeping neighborhoods and busi-
nesses safer, and it will engage
people of all ages in the process.
Citizens in Evesham Township
will be able to use their iPhones
and Android-based smartphones
to send anonymous crime tips to
the Evesham Police Department.
The app will allow smartphone
users to provide anonymous
crime-fighting tips, including
smartphone photographs and
videos, to the Evesham Police.
Community members with
smartphones are encouraged to
visit the app store from their
phones and search for ET-
PDTIP.
The ETPDTIP app can be
previewed at: eveshampd.org
Its 100 percent anonymous Cit-
izenObservers technology re-
moves all identifying informa-
tion before the police department
sees it, so theres no way to iden-
tify the sender.
Citizens can also send anony-
mous tips to the Evesham Police
Department by texting the word
ETPDTIP and their tip to 847411.
