;ind out about the application made by Trans %anada to con*ert a natural gas pipeline to carry oil from 8orthern Alberta to the &aritimes. This pipeline crosses 2ttawa 5ust south of <titts*ille. There has been *ery little time left for public input but it is important that we spea up if the plan is inade?uate in meeting the needs of our communities. @t will lay out what is planned to be pro*ided between now and 26#1! impacting on how we will na*igate by bus! car! bi e! or on foot. There is one information centre for the Kanata ) <titts*ille area and three others across the %ity. 7ou can attend any one of these and @ will also hold a discussion at my Town $all meeting. The %ity is re*iewing subdi*ision guidelines for areas outside the (reenbelt. =ith higher densities! smaller lot siFes! par ing congestion! lac of sidewal s! no space for trees or snow storage! as well as street lighting and utility placement issues! it is not surprising that some conflicts ha*e occurred. The team of consultants wor ing on these

guidelines come from across %anada to pro*ide detailed recommendations of future de*elopments such as the planned community along &arch ,oad. Plan to attend the 2pen $ouse on the Transportation &aster Plan! and then come to this session to see how it can be put into practise. >oin me there to put forward your ideas so that future de*elopments will not e3perience some of the issues that we are facing with our current de*elopments.

This wor shop will gi*e you an opportunity to say how you'd li e the new urban community along &arch ,oad to de*elop. 7ou'll hear what ma es up a community and then show how you'd put it together ) with roads! par s! school sites! pathways! housing of all types! retail de*elopment and more. Gse your imagination to say what you'd li e to see there! nowing what the %ity's standards are that need to be followed. 0esigning a new community is fun! rewarding and will further your understanding of your own community. All are welcome to attend.

%ity legal staff are re*iewing the &inisterial appro*al for a new landfill on %arp ,oad to see what can be done to meet the %ity's concerns with such a large landfill in the midst of an urban de*eloping area. @ will report on their findings once @ recei*e their analysis.

Then! after pitching in to impro*e your community! register your results to be eligible for great priFes that ha*e been donated to the %ity for groups and indi*iduals who'*e *olunteered to maintain the ?uality of their community.

@n my last 8ewsletter @ discussed the Better 8eighbourhood Program! a program designed to help residents and community groups implement positi*e changes to their neighbourhoods. @n 261#! one of the pro5ects appro*ed was for Kanata's %hinese <eniors to establish a %ommunity (arden. To apply to ha*e an impro*ement pro5ect supported! please go to www.ottawa.ca for details and submit your application by 2ctober 21st. To help further community groups with such impro*ement pro5ects! the 8eighbourhood %onnection 2ffice has launched an online tool it to support the o*erall goal of creating more li*eable neighbourhoods. This tool it pro*ides pro5ect assistance from start to finish! including practical tools such as meeting and pro5ect chec lists! and pre*ious pro5ects done in other neighbourhoods. The tool it is also bilingual.

@t's almost here: The 2fficial 2pening of the ,ichcraft ,ecreation %omple3 Kanata is planned for 0ecember -th! and for the < ate Board Par and outdoor play areas during the wee of 8o*ember +th. @t is a wonderful facility and we are planning for lots of acti*ities on opening day. The time capsules returned will be placed in the *ault on opening day but there will be an e3tended time to get one and fill it before the *ault is sealed for the ne3t -6 years. 2n opening day you will wal o*er the pa*ers of supporters of the centre. =e can add to these so as about them or find out about our fundraising endea*ors by going to www.richcraftcomple3.ca. 7ou can register for pool classes and acti*ities now. ,emember to continue to watch for children wal ing along a road without a sidewal ! and to gi*e them space and .%OW <OWN. =hen dropping your children off at school watch for other children and be particularly careful ) you would want other dri*ers to do the same for your children. =e are fortunate to ha*e many crossing guards to help children cross some of the busier places while you can help by teaching them traffic sense for other times and locations.
