LYNN GHAHARY

LYNN's EXPERT TIPs:

If a certain design principal or embellishment worked on a scrapbook layout, itll work on a card. I often look to layouts Ive created and love as a starting point for my cards. Take pictures of your finished cards after youve given the card away, you can go back to take a peek and create another, similar card. In that same vein, its totally okay to create cards with similar design elements! By simply changing papers or embellishments you can make a card with a unique message and feel while maintaining the same basic setup. I believe the saying If it aint broke, dont fix it most certainly applies to card designing.
4

Hailing from Canada, this months featured designer is Lynn Ghahary. She is an avid card maker and a SAHM to two adorable boys. A little more about Lynn, in her own words: My husband (and high school sweetheart) Salar and I have been married for nine years. We have two wild and crazy boys together, Darian (five) and Brandon (threeand-a-half), that keep me busy most of the day. I am lucky enough to be able to stay home, and if Im not carting them to and from school, sports activities, birthday parties, or play dates, you can usually find me building Lego towers and fighting the forces of evil, while playing a little Nintendo DSi and Wii on the side. I was first introduced to the wonderful world of scrapbooking way back in 2000. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to scrapbook,

as I worked a very demanding full-time job I dabbled and bought supplies more than I actually used them. I took a break completely when my first son was born and didn't really come back to scrapbooking until early 2008. Card making may seem like a natural extension, but it didnt work that way for me. Im not sure why, but creating cards overwhelmed me more than designing a layout (youd think it would be exactly the opposite). Perhaps the petite size and the desire to say so much in such a small space is what threw me off, but I persevered and a distinct love for card making was born. Now I create cards just as often as if not more than I create scrapbook layouts. Its a great way to use up all of those scraps and play with all of the pretty flowers and girly papers and embellishments that I hoard despite the fact that I only have boys.

Sometimes its all about the details. The easiest way to step up your card making is to pay attention to the little things, like tying on some floss, adding brads to buttons, sticking pins through the knot of a ribbon, or attaching gems or jewels to the centres of your flowers.
