Hello Crafters...
The sleigh bells are a jingling
and the tinsel twinkling as
we start the countdown to
Christmas here at Crafty HQ.
Bursting with festive cheer,

Make it...
the projects on the following
pages will inspire you to
create all your cards and
decorations in true handmade style. There are
stocking fillers, mini teddies, advent calendars
and seasonal motifs to copy and colour.
I hope you love this issue’s free gifts as
much as I do. The Elves & Friends felt kit
has everything you need to make a host of
delightful characters, plus we’ve included
templates to help you along the way. As
well as festive gift ideas, there are foiling
p48 techniques (p45), the low-down on digi stamps
(p68) and stylish designs made with couture
dies (p28), plus the snazziest colouring tools
to pop under the tree. We also chat to author
p81 and designer, Christiane Bellstedt Myers
about her passion for Scandi style and how to
recreate the look. Finally, there’s the chance to
win an amazing holiday for four worth £1000
(p53), and masses of goodies to add to your
stash on our give-away pages (p60).
Merry Christmas everyone!

Die-Cutting
Christmas greetings are
meant to be special, but
that doesn’t mean a single
card needs to take ages
to make. I’ve got a great
shortcut for knockout
designs: large, intricate
cutting dies. To create these
cards, I used Create and
Craft's Couture range of
dies which, besides being
large and dramatic, also
gives the option of two
different designs per style:
an edger or a topper. An
edger is a bold design that's
cut from the edge of card
and gives an instant border
element. A topper is the
same design that's cut as a
single element – it works
perfectly as a focal. Add
variety by cutting them
from different colours or
securing embellishments to
the completed design.

seasonal greetings. There's no
time like the present, so grab
a mince pie and get started...

Die-cut a Festive Tree

1 Die-cut a tree in light and dark
green, then a large tag from light
blue. Adhere the light and dark
green trees together, keeping glue
off the areas that need to be curled.
Punch out coloured circles and
arrange onto each layer of the tree.
2 Add glitter glue to each circle and
leave to dry. Die-cut ‘ho ho ho’ from
white card and adhere onto the

tree that are not glued. Add a strip
of red onto the tag and secure the
tree over the top. Add faux stitching
around the outside. Punch a hole
in the top, secure with a re-inforcer
and thread with bakers twine.

fabric really well and we do several
stabilisers depending on your project.
For card makers, I would recommend
the fabric blade along with the
clean-cut fabric stabiliser, which you
iron on to the reverse. You can cut the
material on your Silhouette machine
and iron it straight onto your cards with
no frayed edges, it can even be
layered up for more intricate projects.

the machine and you design your

JEWELLERY

Guest editor, Camilla

Westergaard from folksy.com,
heads into the winter wilderness.
“Christmas is all about magic… and
what could be closer to real-life
enchantment than the Northern
Lights? This celestial light show has been firing
people’s imagination for thousands of years, inspiring
countless myths and legends, but even now when
the science books – or Google – tell you it’s all
down to electromagnetic matter doing its thing 93
million miles away, the stories are almost easier to
believe. Unsurprisingly, makers have come under the
spell of the Aurora Borealis too, incorporating their
iridescence and wonder into their work, as well as
the folklore that surrounds them. As jewellers, their
beauty is almost impossible to resist, especially when
you have crystals, moonstone, black opal, labradorite
and spectrolite at your disposal, just waiting to put
on a miniature light show of their own.”

Richard Phillips, The Soap Kitchen Owner 2 Position an embroidered panel in
the lower centre of the fabric strips

edges to make into a tube.
3 Pin and stitch the felt and fabric
base disc to the lower edge of the
tube, using the felt as a sewing guide.
Fold the seam allowance towards
the felt side and secure with a small

side of the bag and use six strands of
embroidery thread to sew a ring of large
running stitch around the top in line with
the seam. Knot the thread
at the side and trim the ends. Sew
another ring around the top, starting
from the opposite side, and secure in
the same way so that when both knots
are pulled, the top of the bag gathers
