of local rescue groups, and pet-related partner organizations. Learn about resources available in the community to help pets in need, volunteering, and opportunities to help support rescue efforts in Miami County
and other counties, as well.

The Bradford Lions are having a Pancake and Sausage Day on

Saturday, March 1, at the Bradford School Auditeria. Serving will be
from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The menu will consist of all-you-caneat pancakes served with whole hog sausage, scrambled eggs, applesauce, and a drink. Carry-outs will be available.
Cost for adults will be $5.50, and for children 12 and under, $3.50.
No tickets are necessary.
All profits from this event will go toward a scholarship for a Bradford senior.

Kindergarten Registration Set

For M-U Elementary School
Kindergarten registration for next school year at Milton-Union Elementary School will be held March
10-12 at the elementary office. It is important for all potential kindergarteners to be registered at this time,
even if the parent is not sure they will attend, or all requested documentation is not available. A screening
appointment will be made during this time for each child. Children must be five years old on or before
July 31, 2014, to register.
Registration hours are 9:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, and 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Report to the Elementary School office, 7620 Milton-Potsdam Rd., with as much of the following documentation as possible: Childs county birth certificate, social security number, a certified copy of any existing custody papers, and parents' proof of residency. Children need not be present for registration, but
are welcome.
Please call the school at 937-884-7920 to discuss any problems with times or requirements for registration.

Fastnacht Dinner To Be Served

At St. Johns Church March 4
Fastnacht (fast night) will be observed with the traditional Fastnacht Dinner being served at St.
Johns Lutheran Church, Covington, on Tuesday, March 4.
Chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, pickled beets and applesauce, as well as the famous
crullers (German donuts) will be served from 4:30 til 7 p.m.
Donations are accepted for meals enjoyed in the church community room. Carry-out meals are also
available during serving hours for a $5 donation.
This Annual Fastnacht Dinner has been offered at St. Johns since the 1920s. Families have enjoyed
the large servings and homemade goodness for generations. For many, the best part of the meal is the
crullers, handmade fresh the morning of the dinner.
During the Fastnacht Dinner there will be several quilted items on a table at the back of the church set
up for Silent Auction bids. One of the items is a 78x90 inch hand-stitched quilt in a wedding ring pattern.
There will also be four throw pillows and a set of eight plate pads.
The church is located on the corner of Wall and Bridge Sts., with access to handicap parking through
the alley off Bridge St.

Imagination Library Available To Librarys Preschoolers

Bradford Public Library is pleased to present Dolly Partons Imagination Library for preschoolers.
BPL is part of the Troy-Miami County Librarys program. Each child receives a FREE BOOK on a
monthly basis from birth through their 5th birthday.
Come to the library Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m., for about 45 minutes, to hear about the program and
get your preschooler signed up. Meet in the Childrens Area. It is easy to sign up and you will be amazed
how this reading program, started in 1997, can help create a reader in your family.

Darke County United Way is also funding this program for very young patrons who live in Darke
County, so no child will be left out of this amazing program.

Cell Phone Collection Drive

March 1 - May 3 at Milton Library
The Office of International Studies and the Swedenborg Memorial Library of Urbana University
are pleased to sponsor a Hope
Phones collection drive. The
drive is the first joint venture between local libraries and Urbana
University. The public is asked to
donate cell phones no longer
used or needed.
The Milton-Union Public Library is partnering with Urbana
University as a collection site.
The Hope Phones cell phone
collection drive will be held from
Saturday, March 1, to Saturday,
May 3. Each donor receives a
bookmark as a token of appreciation. The goal is to collect 50 or
more old cell phones from the
community.
Hope Phones is a parent program of Medic Mobile, a public
charity organization that advances health care in 15 countries across the globe. Hope
Phones uses old cell phones to
directly fund operations of
Medic Mobile. When an old cell
phone is donated, the Medic Mobile recycling partner transfers
the value of the phone to a Medic
Mobile account so that new mobile technology can be purchased
for the field. The goal of mobile
technology is to create connected, coordinated health systems that help save lives.
Theres another benefit to donating an old cell phone. Americans discard half a million cell
phones each day. These phones
pollute the Earth with plastic and
toxins like nickel, beryllium, and

Barbies Birthday Bash

Coming Up at Bradford Library
In 1959, Barbie was founded by Ruth Handler and was marketed
as a Teen-age Fashion Model by Mattel. Since that time, little girls
and big girls alike have enjoyed playing with Barbie.
Saturday, March 8, at the Bradford Public Library, there will be a
celebration of Barbies 55th Birthday. Girls of all ages may bring their
Barbies to the library at 11 a.m. dressed in their finest for a Barbie
style show, and girls may even want to dress like their doll!
There will be activities for the girls and cake and punch will be
served.

I asked Larry to go fishing with me. We went to a nearby lake

where they were supposedly catching Specks. Larry accepted the
invitation and we had a great time just talking and taking in the
scenery and sunset. I did catch two bass while speck fishing, but
we released them both. The time really got away from us and by
time we returned to the dock, it was pitch black. We did manage to
load up the boat and finally headed for home. We were almost home
when we saw Larry Beck and Jerry Bazill. I pulled over, and both
of them at once asked, Did you forget the dinner tonight?
