Fort Rowdy Gathering

Committee Meeting Set

Christmas in July Golf Scramble

And Fundraiser Slated July 19

The Fort Rowdy Gathering

will have a committee meeting
on Thursday, July 10, 7:30 p.m.,
at the Covington City Building.
Please join us as we prepare
for the 2014 Gathering. Everyone is welcome!

The Christmas in July Golf Scramble and Fundraiser, in memory of Staci Jo Blythe, will take place Saturday, July 19, at the Stillwater Valley Golf Club in Versailles, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. All proceeds
from this event will be used to celebrate Christmas with needy kids from the area in memory of Staci.
Entries and donations must be received by Thursday, July 15. Hole sponsors are available and very
much appreciated, with the cost of $50 for each hole. These can be sent to the golf course at 9235 Seibt
Rd., Versailles, OH 45380, or to Dusty Blythe, 114 E. Franklin St., Troy, OH 45373. Information concerning entry fees and forms is available at Stillwater Valley Golf Club or on their website.
This is the fourth year for this fundraiser. It only continues because of the generosity of people and because of its purpose. Being with family, celebrating the birth of Jesus, and putting a smile on an unknown
childs face was the highlight of Stacis Christmas. She continued to adopt needy kids for this purpose
even when she was in her physical battle and not feeling well.
This fundraiser has helped close to 500 children the past three years. Stacis family asks that you keep
the success of this event in your prayers so the fundraiser can continue what she started.

Ohio Young
Birders Club
To Meet at
BNC June 28
Brukner Nature Centers
Young Birders Club will meet at
the Interpretive Building to take
a hike down the eastern bluebird
trail. This trail entails a series of
bluebird nest boxes that are
spaced 100 to 200 yards apart in
an open habitat with scarce vegetation. Since bluebirds are
being outcompeted by non-native European starlings and
house sparrows for nesting locations, the construction of bluebird houses is essential for their
populations persistence.
Along with guest visitor Carl
Knepper from BNCs Bird Club,
the young birders will check the
progress of our resident bluebirds and even construct their
very own bluebird houses to take
home.
Young Birders Club meets
from 9-11 a.m. High quality
binoculars and field guides are
provided for use during meetings
and field trips, so no additional
equipment is needed.
Call 937-698-6493 if you
have any questions and to RSVP.
BNC is located at 5995 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Troy.

Local Author Polly Britton

to Visit July 1 &
The Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library is hosting a book
signing with Polly Britton, a
Pleasant Hill resident and author,
at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1.
Join Polly as she shares excerpts
from and signs copies of her two
books, Just Paul and Billie.
Both books will be available for
purchase.
The authors father, Paul,
was a West Virginian who
served his country in the Navy
during WWII and he came back
to take a bride and raise a family.
Billie was that bride, and together they raised an ordinary
family before the age of smart
phones, tablets, the Internet,
seatbelts, and bicycle helmets. In
some ways, things were easier
and simpler; in other ways, life
was harder.
Author Polly Britton has
captured the times in a way that
will resonate with all those who
experienced growing up in the
1950s and 1960s, when America
was a far different place than it
is today.
The Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library is located at 12 N.
Main St., Pleasant Hill. For more
information, call 937-676-2731
or visit www.troypubliclibrary.org.

Newton Ag Students Learn About Plant Science

Students in the Newton agricultural education program
have been ending the year learning all about plant science. They learned about crop and grain production as
well as home gardening. The classes used the outside
courthouse area to plant their own vegetable seeds
such as tomatoes, greenbeans, radishes and pumpkins. The students have now taken home their vegetables in order to grow healthy, nutritious, fresh
vegetables this summer for their families. They are also
encouraged to bring samples of these vegetables for
entry in the Miami County Fair FFA Shop & Crop exhibition. The students also learned about container gardening and a bit about Floriculture by creating some
excellent potted creations that are placed outside of
the main doors of the building. Learning hands-on has
been an adventure for all and the hope is to expand
these plans for next year.

A Very Unique Wedding

For A Very Special Couple
Ginger and I were guests at Ashley Etter and Tyler Barnts wedding
Saturday, June 21, at the Bradford Church of the Brethren.
Weve been to countless weddings over the years, but this one had
a happy tone to it that you just cant describe.
When we entered the church we were handed a passport to stamp
each part of the journey we were about to witness.
The first page of the passport recalled their engagement, with full
details of their special moment on July 4th. Page two gave us the
ceremony program from Prelude to Recession.

Listed were the happy couples choices for something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.
The bridal party was listed in order, with bridesmaids, maid of
honor and, of course, the best man. Groomsmen, flower girls, and
ringbearers were also named.
Performing the ceremony was Pastor Dan Scalf, and the singers
were Mike and Kendra Land, our churchs Worship Pastor.

The reception was held in the Fort Piqua Plaza Banquet Center.
From the moment you entered your passports were stamped from
station to station.
The drinks were in one room, fruit and Wonkas Candy Factory

AUCTIONEERS

After dinner we could enjoy the wedding cake or cupcakes, and all
the sweet candies.

937-538-6231 auctions@woh.rr.com

We could mingle and talk to family and friends we havent seen

for many years (or at least since the day before).
There was a photo booth where everyone could have their pictures
taken, with hats, boas, and huge glasses. You could then have them
pasted in a photo album and write a message to the new couple.

LEGAL
NOTICES

The entire evening was fun and enjoyable, watching the kids dance,
sing, and have a ball with light sticks.

LEGAL NOTICE

Ginger and I came in second place during a dance where you were
eliminated by the amount of time youve been married. The winners were the grandparents of the bride, Ralph and Connie Etter,
with 55 years and counting. Ginger and I will celebrate our 49th
wedding anniversary this fall.
ThiS wEEkS BOTTOM LiNE: Congratulations to Ashley and
Tyler for sharing their special day with us all.
The real act of marriage takes place in the heart, not in the ballroom, church, or synagogue. It's a choice you make not just on
your wedding day, but over and over again and that choice is
reflected in the way you treat your husband or wife.
