Bradford Public Library Summer Reading Program Sign-Ups Underway

Bradford Public Library recently held their first day
for signing up for their annual Summer Reading Program. Patrons could come either to the library or to opening day for Summer Rec. Sign-ups for the Fizz, Boom...
Read! program continue through mid-June.
The library is also holding a special overview of the
program for homeschoolers and parents, in addition to
other interested parents and grandparents. This will be
held twice on Thursday, May 29 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The
SRC Club will be highlighting STEM activities (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Math) for all ages even
adults!

Sign-up for the Summer Reading Program (SRP) at the Milton-Union Public Library will be held May
30. Reading logs and handouts for various programs, events, crafts, and book clubs will be available on
that date. There will be programs and events for children, teens, adults, and inspirational readers.
Some exciting programs for children include "Writings of a Mad Scientist" and showcase programs on
Thursdays like nature programs, musical storyteller, magician, wild animal expert, tie dye craft, fire department fire demo, Science Mania Man, Dayton Wing Masters, and much more!
For teens there will be Tuesday programs like The Science of Myths and a Mad Lab, as well as a Friday
Crafternoon and Teen Game Night. Best of all, teen registration and reading logs will be online with instructions available.
For adults there will be weekly drawings, a non-commitment book club, and adult crafts.
Inspirational readers will have a chance to enter in a prize drawing.
Saturday Showcase offers movies from 2:30 to 4:30 for the whole family (check handouts for titles, ratings, and dates).
Finally, the library is constructing a "Borrow + Build = Blast!" sculpture out on the lawn by the marquee.
This sculpture will represent items borrowed from the library during the SRP. Each case will represent 60
items checked out. The community is encouraged to help the library reach their goal of 20,000 items, in
which case they will receive a free community ice cream party.

Neuter Clinic at the Monroe Grange Hall in Tipp City on Tuesday,

Ohio Young Birders Club

To Meet at BNC May 31
Brukner Nature Centers Young Birders Club will meet at the
Interpretive Building on Saturday, May 31, but take an exciting field
trip to BNCs Rivers Edge property to participate in the monitoring
of purple martin nest houses.
As our largest swallows, the glossy-blue males and brown
females will migrate thousands of miles from South America and
settle in houses installed by excited birders. In the eastern United
States, purple martins are more likely to use these houses as opposed
to the west, where the birds use the more traditional tree cavities.
Putting up a purple martin house is like installing a miniature neighborhood and allows for an excellent opportunity for collecting nesting and behavioral data.
Young Birders Club meets from 9-11 a.m. High-quality binoculars and field guides are provided for use during meetings and field

Bluegrass Music Festival

Coming Up in Bradford
Mark your calendars for Friday, June 27, 5-11 p.m., for some
great bluegrass music sponsored by the Bradford Public Library. This
is the 4th year that the library has sponsored this FREE program for
the community.
This event is made possible because groups donate their time and
great talent to promote bluegrass and bring a wonderful music program to the community.
This years line-up includes Showtime Grass, Rum River Blend,
Sugargrove, North and South, Berachah Valley, Rock Island Plow
Co., and Nightflyer.
There will be a raffle and food will be available for purchase.
The Bradford location will be announced soon. Plan to attend for
an evening a great entertainment and invite your friends!

Newton High School

Commencement Held May 25
Newton High Schools 136th Commencement was held Sunday, May
25, 2 p.m., in the Junior High School Gymnasium. Forty-seven students
were approved to participate in this years ceremony pending successful
completion of the necessary academic requirements. The High School
Band played the Prelude, the Processional, Alma Mater, the Recessional,
and a special featured number. The High School Choir also performed.
Both were under the direction of Mr. Jason Graham.
Mrs. Danielle Davis, K-12 Principal, recognized the class
Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and presented the Class of 2014 for graduation. Valedictorian was Ryan Hines and Salutatorian was Andrew Drieling.
Presenting diplomas to the graduates were the Board of Education
members. Assisting with the diploma presentation was Mr. Pat McBride,
Superintendent of Newton Local School District.
