This winter has been a brutal one; I hope you all have managed well. We were given a small reprieve, and spring is just around the corner. The Men's Auxiliary was proud to host the Junior AFROTC benefit last month, customers turned out in record numbers, thank you so much for your support. All the proceeds went to benefit the Junior AFROTC programs. The Men's Auxiliary was very happy to help them and we look forward to helping them in the future! I would like to remind everyone that our pancake breakfast that is help the 3rd Saturday of every month, come out for a great breakfast and support our programs, our last one will be in May. So come out and get entered to win the $200 gift card to Wal-Mart. Every breakfast you attend you are able to sign up and enter to win the gift card. May 17th is our annual Cowboy Up Ride Against Cancer kick-off. This will be a full day of events. The day will consist of: Pancake Breakfast from 8 am to 11 am Cruising for a Cure Motorcycle ride leaves the VFW at 11:30, registration is from 8 11 Lunch served 11 2 Dinner will be served from 4 - 7:30 Michelle and friends will get there heads shaved at 6:45 The silent auction will run the entire duration of the day till ending at 7:45 pm. The evening will wrap up with karaoke at 8:00 This year we again have a few people stepping up to go bald for cancer! Our own darling Michelle Christopherson is shaving off all her hair for those who have sacrificed so much more. Rumor has it that Karen Hystad is coming back to get her head shaved again this year! There will be jars set up at the bar for donations! If you have anything you would like to donate for this event or know of any business that would like to donate please contact any member of the Mens Auxiliary. We are still working on collecting items for the silent auction and donations for the lunch and dinner all help is greatly appreciated. All proceeds from the lunch, dinner, head shaving and silent auction go to Cowboy Up Ride Against Cancer, which is a fundraiser exclusively for the Roger Maris Cancer Center!! Fargo VAHCS is starting a "No Veteran Dies Alone" (NVDA) program. No NVDA is a volunteer program that provides the reassuring presence of a volunteer companion to inpatient hospice patients with end stage diseases. With the support of nursing staff, NVDA volunteers are able to help provide patients with the valuable human gifts of their presence. They help improve Veterans quality of life often times by helping Veterans live their lives to the fullest. NVDA volunteers may provide their presence to seriously ill patients who have neither family nor close friends to be with them or they may provide respite to the family members of seriously ill Veterans. All VA employees, volunteers and the community are invited to be considered for the NVDA program. All volunteers must become a registered volunteer with the Fargo VA Health Care System and be available to attend a day training session where they will learn the simple art of being compassionately present at the bedside of a seriously ill Veteran. If you ever wanted to do more for a Veteran, here is a real and necessary opportunity. To sign up, please contact the Voluntary Services Office at 701.239.3700 ext 3395

Spring is in the airit was 30 plus degrees today!! Membership is still at the top of my priority list, there are still about 40 members that have not paid their dues for the new year. Please get it in the mail as soon as possible. We need your membership dollars, so we can support our Veterans programs. Mark your calendars for the 1st Sunday of the month, as we will continue with our lunches. In March we will be serving meatloaf with a baked potato and in April we will serve Chicken Alfredo, along with the other select menu items. On March 15th we host the District 9 meeting. That evening we will be hosting District 9 President Lynette Andel's testimonial. We will need several volunteers for that day and evening, please give me a call if you would like to help. In April we will have election of officers, if you are interested in holding an office, you must attend that meeting, so mark your calendar. Keep out veterans and their families in your prayers Karen Haugen 701.367.1518

Greetings Comrades, Spring is just around the corner (I hope as I write this) and with that another successful year at the VFW. Lots of things going on with the VFW beyond the club/bar. I would like to offer a special thanks to the members of our Color Guard, no matter what the temp or conditions, these men carry on the sacred duty to honor our fallen comrades. We also have a very strong showing of volunteers at the County Veterans service office. It makes me very proud. We lost a very dedicated VFW member, Al Rieniets was a great friend and a wonderful person. He managed the VFW for years and was a member of the color guard. He will be missed. I am very happy to say that the VFW Supper club has become very successful and business doing well. I encourage you to come down and try some of the meals, Also on St. Patrick 's Day we will be serving Joe B's (Sr. Vice) world famous corned beef and cabbage (make sure to mark your calendars) In closing remember to fly our nation's flag at your home as a symbol of the greatest country the world has ever seen. Yours in Comradeship Jason

March 15th, District 9 Meeting.

Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. The auction will be at 11:00 and lunch at 12:00. The meetings will start at 1:00 p.m.. All members are welcome.
