A display and public forum on sustainable development options for East Lake will be held
at the Eastlake Football Club on Tuesday 30 March.
Consultants, SGS Economics and Planning, have been appointed to develop a plan for
East Lake to showcase sustainable development that provides a mix of housing and
high-quality open space and is well connected to existing and new shops, employment
opportunities, schools, and cultural and recreational facilities.

ACT Legislation Register—User Survey 2010
The ACT legislation register is an authorised electronic statute book that provides the
community with free and quick access to ACT legislation and related information.
The register is central to the making, notification, commencement, operation,
interpretation, proof, republication, amendment and repeal of legislation and
instruments made under legislation.
The register has been in operation since 12 September 2001. Since that time it has had
many enhancements and most recently a new search function has been installed.
The Parliamentary Counsel’s Office (PCO) is seeking your input to help us identify where
the register is meeting your needs and where the register could do more.
Whether you’re a regular user or will be having a look at the register for the first time,
please let us know what you think.

Review of ACT Government Events and Festivals
The ACT Government has engaged Peter Loxton and Associates Pty Ltd to review the
ACT Government’s events and festivals. This review will provide the opportunity to
explore the economic and social potential of events to the ACT and identify a unified
vision for events and festivals in Canberra that reflects the essence of Canberra’s values,
attributes, and experiences. It will also consider Government and business partnerships,
as well as the most effective organisational arrangements for delivering the ACT
Government’s events and festivals strategies.

Theatre in the ACT Strategic Directions Statement
2010-2013
An information forum on the Theatre in the ACT Strategic Directions Statement 2010-
2013 will be held at 6.00pm on Tuesday 23 March at The Street Theatre. Members of
the Theatre Working Group will be in attendance to discuss the development of the

Pandemic H1N1 and seasonal influenza vaccines
Pandemic H1N1 influenza was the most common strain of influenza in Australia
during 2009 and is expected to return for a second wave this year. The first case of
confirmed pandemic H1N1 influenza for 2010 has already been reported in the ACT and
approximately 15 confirmed cases are currently being reported in Australia each week.
Immunisation against pandemic H1N1 influenza is strongly recommended.
The pandemic H1N1 influenza vaccine is free and currently available from H1N1
Community Immunisation clinics and GPs. Normal GP consultation fees will apply.
The 2010 seasonal influenza vaccine will also protect against pandemic H1N1 influenza
and two other strains of influenza - an A (H3N2) strain and a B strain.
In 2010 seasonal influenza vaccine will be free for:
• anyone aged six months or over who is at risk of severe outcomes if they A maximum one-page written expression of interest and current curriculum vitae
catch the flu, such as people suffering from cardiac disease, cancer, cystic fibrosis,
diabetes or renal failure;
• pregnant women;
• all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 15 or older; and
• all Australians 65 years and over.
People who are not eligible for free seasonal flu vaccine should still consider vaccination
for protection against the strains of influenza expected to be in circulation this winter.
It is safe to have both pandemic H1N1 vaccine and seasonal influenza vaccine within a
short time period.
Distribution of 2010 seasonal influenza vaccine to GPs for people eligible for free vaccine
is underway and all GP practices will have supplies by the end of March. Supplies of
2010 seasonal influenza vaccine for private prescription are expected to be available
from pharmacies in April.
To protect yourself against pandemic H1N1 influenza, book an appointment now
with your GP or call the Community Health Intake Line during business hours on
02 6207 9977. For seasonal flu vaccine, check with your GP to ensure they have stock on
hand before your appointment.

Celebrate with the Canberra Capitals at Stage 88 today
Canberrans are invited to a civic reception today in honour of the WNBL championship-
winning Canberra Capitals. The celebrations will start at 5.00pm at Stage 88 in
Commonwealth Park and will be a highlight of the 2010 Canberra Festival event,
Celebrate in the Park.
The Capitals won their seventh national championship in Melbourne last weekend,
making them the WNBL’s most successful team.
Immediately after the Capitals’ appearance, Dragon will perform on Stage 88, followed
by Cassie Davis and the ARIA award-winning Eskimo Joe. The evening will end with a
fireworks finale at 9.00pm.

Arboretum Open Day
The Friends of the National Arboretum invite you to the Festival of the Forests tomorrow
from 10.00am till 3.00pm. This is a great opportunity to discover more about this unique

Committees of the Cultural Facilities Corporation
The Cultural Facilities Corporation manages significant Territorial cultural assets: the
Canberra Theatre Centre; Canberra Museum and Gallery including the Nolan Collection;
and historic properties – Lanyon, Calthorpes’ House and Mugga Mugga.
The Cultural Facilities Corporation Act 1997 provides for the establishment of Advisory
Committees in relation to performing arts, museum collections and historic places.
Expressions of interest are sought from persons interested in serving as members of the
Corporation’s three Advisory Committees which provide expert strategic advice to the
Board of the Corporation.

New gambling laws
From Monday March 22 2010 the following new gambling laws will come into effect:
• the Unlawful Gambling Act 2009;
• the Unlawful Gambling Regulation 2010;
• the Unlawful Gambling (Charitable Gaming Application Fees) Determination 2010 (No 1);
• the Unlawful Gambling (Exempt Game) Declaration 2010 (No 1); and
• the Unlawful Gambling (Unlawful Game) Declaration 2010 (No 1).
These laws act as a framework for regulating gambling in the ACT. The laws outline
restrictions on private gambling (such as where it may be conducted), provide for
restricted charitable gaming and make clear that existing commercial gambling (such as
casino and gaming machines) can continue under other ACT gambling laws. For more

Show me the Monergy
The ACT Government recently launched the ACTSmart Monergy awareness campaign,
designed to help people save money by cutting energy use. The campaign will inform
people how they can save money and also promote the help on offer through the
ACTSmart program.
The message is simple – ACTSmart and save Monergy. Monergy is a combination of
two words – money and energy, and represents the savings people can make through
reducing their energy use with the help of the rebates, incentives and advice available.
The ACT Government has many programs that can help people save Monergy including
the Community Energy Grants, Home Energy Advice Team, Home Energy Action Kits
