CHARTERING POLICY of theSTUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATIONOf QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITYArticle I: Organizational Standing
The Student Government Association will accept requests for chartering from allrecognized organizations, which means they are registered with the Office of the StudentCenter and Student Leadership Development. There are two classifications anorganization can fall under:I.A recognized organization:a. An organization justregistered with the Office of the StudentCenter and Student Leadership Development.II.Fully chartered organization:a.Must meet all requirements set-forth in Article II of the Chartering Policy.
Article II: Eligibility
An organization’s eligibility is determined by the Public Relations Committee.Organizations must fulfill the following requirements:I.It has been recognized by the Office of the Student Center and Student LeadershipDevelopment for at least one (1) academic year.II.Membership is open to all and only Quinnipiac University undergraduate students.III.No chartered organization can mandate the charge of dues for anyone to be part of the club or organization.a.If however, the national affiliate requests the charge of dues to be part of the national organization, then all dues collected must be used towards theaffiliation only.IV.It has no holdings in an outside banking institution.V.It must be in compliance with the Student Government Association Constitutionand Financial Policy.VI.It is managed and led exclusively by undergraduate students with no power exerted by faculty/staff beyond the normal functions of advising.VII.It must demonstrate the following as an indication of significant contribution toQuinnipiacUniversity undergraduate students: a.Consistent active membership b.Regular Meetingsc.Compliance with the organization’s own constitution1
 
Article III: Chartering ProceduresSection 1: Procedures to apply for chartering
I.The Vice President of Public Relations must have received notification that anorganization is recognized by the University via the Office of the Student Center and Student Leadership Development.II.The President of that organization must meet with the Vice President of PublicRelations or designated Organizational Liason(s)of the Public Relations’Committee. It is the Vice President of Public Relations or the OrganizationalLiason(s)’s responsibility to outline the policies and procedures of the StudentGovernment Association.III.Upon meeting with the Vice President of Public Relations or the OrganizationalLiason(s), the organization is asked:a.To submit a constitution to the Public Relations Committee for approvalof becomingto becomea chartered organizationin of theStudent GovernmentAssociation. b.To reviseand resubmitits constitution to meet the requirements of the Student Government Association’s policies. The organization can thenmake changes to be in compliance withArticle IIof the Chartering Policy, and resubmit the new constitution to the Public Relations Committee for approval of becoming a chartered organization in Student Government..
Section 2: Chartering process forclubs/organizations
I.Organizations submit a constitution to the Public Relations Committee.a.The Public Relations Committee will have a maximum of two (2) weeksto review the organization’s constitution. b.All organizations must send at least one (1) representative to the PublicRelations Committee meeting at which the recommendation will be heard.c.The decision will be presented at the next weekly meeting of the StudentGovernment Association.d.The Student Government Association will then vote on therecommendation of the Public Relations Committee.i.At least one (1) representative must be present to field questionsfrom the general body.ii.A majority vote of the Student Government Association is neededto grant a charter, or not to charter an organization.e.The Vice President of Public Relations will notify the organization inwriting of their status. An official charter letter is sent to the Office of theStudent Center and Student Leadership Development. A copy of this letter is also filed in the Student GovernmentAssociationOffice.
