COLOURS

Blue, green, red, yellow, brown, black, white, grey and pink are colours.
The sky is blue. The grass is green. Blood is red. A banana is yellow.
Earth is brown. Coal is black. The snow is white. An elephant is grey. Pink is a
pale red colour. Roses may be pink or red.
Orange is a mixture of red and yellow. Purple or violet is a mixture of red
and blue. Some colours may be lightened or darkened by adding white or black.
So we can say: light brown, dark brown; light green, dark green; light blue, dark
blue. Grey is a colour between black and white. The sky is blue, but it can be
grey on a cloudy day.
When we want to say that something is rather green, but not exactly
green, we say “it is greenish”. In the same way we can say “greyish”, “bluish”,
“whitish”, etc.
