CONVERGENCE Technological convergence is the tendency for different technological systems to evolve towards
performing similar tasks. For example on a phone you can text, call, take photos, go on the internet,
watch movies etc. before you would have needed multiple devices to be able to do this.
INTERACTIVITY Digital technology is often interactive for example on Facebook we can create pages, upload photos
and videos and socialise. Therefore the audience is active not passive.
TECHNOLOGICAL Technological determinism is a theory that presumes that a society's technology drives the
DETERMINISM development of its social structure and cultural values

CULTURAL PESSIMISM + Cultural pessimism can often be found in the popular press through news stories that highlight the
NEOPHILIACS dangers of the internet and the negative effects of technology. Neophiliacs are people who embrace
the latest technology.

REGULATION & CONTROL The increasingly easy and perfect digital reliability of content makes it harder to monetize creative
rights. i.e. If your movie is put on YouTube anyone can use it and you wont make any money out of it

CONSUMPTION PATTERNS People interact with the media in very different ways to how they used to. For example people can
watch TV via 4OD and BBC iplayer rather than by watching the TV. People can download films from
Love film rather than buying a DVD.

AUDIENCE FRAGMENTATION Before New Media there was this idea of a mass audience and a mass media. People would watch
things all at the same time and there was very little choice over their media.
