of accreditation at Professional Competence
Scope of endorsement – all Elements of the
Professional Teaching Standards for Visual Arts
This seminar program will provide opportunities for
re-examining practice in both artmaking and critical
and historical studies of art in Years 7–10 Visual Arts
and Photographic and Digital Media courses.
Presentations will cover the development of bodies
of work and their relationship to art study programs,
curriculum differentiation and literacy strategies. All
presentations will include coverage of assessment
issues and strategies as an integral part of planning
teaching and learning activities.
A significant feature of this program is the
inclusion of two young teachers; Elspeth Grew
will present an overview of the development and
implementation of a Photoshop and stop-motion
animation unit of work for Year 9 PDM students
and Katherine Saunders will present an overview
of the development and implementation of a
ceramics and stop-motion animation unit for Year 7
Visual Arts students. Both these units of work were
exemplary curriculum projects and provide useful
insight into negotiating for innovation in teaching
practice within the constraints that teachers face.
Presentations on literacy strategies and curriculum
differentiation will provide models for addressing
the diversity of needs and abilities teachers
encounter in every classroom. Consideration of
assessment strategies will be covered as a holistic
component of good teaching practice.
Resources from all presentations will be provided
and a closing session will encourage participants to
create contacts and share resources.
