Poets have many tools that they can
use to create their poems. The one
you might be most familiar with is
the effect of sound. When words are
spoken aloud, they have lots of great
sound qualities that poets can
incorporate into their poems.
Definition

• A rhyme is a repetition of similar sounds in


two or more words and is most often used in 
poetry and songs. The word "rhyme" may also
refer to a short poem, such as a rhyming 
couplet or other brief rhyming poem.

• words sound alike b/c they share the same


ending vowel AND consonant sounds
What is a Rhyming Poem?

• A rhyming poem is a verse poem that contains


rhyming words at the end of certain lines.
• Usually use in humor
