Chapter 28

Of the Communion of Saints

1. All saints that are united to Jesus Christ, their head, by His Spirit, and faith,
although they are not made thereby one person with Him, have fellowship in
His graces, sufferings, death, resurrection and glory;

I John That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our
1:1 eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
I John (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you
1:2 that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
I John That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship
1:3 with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

John 1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

Philippians Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of
3:8 Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count
them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Philippians And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but
3:9 that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Philippians That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his
3:10 sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Philippians If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
3:11

Romans For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the
6:5 likeness of his resurrection:
Romans Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be
6:6 destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

and being united to one another in love, they have communion in each others gifts
and graces,

Ephesians And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some,
4:11 pastors and teachers;
Ephesians For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the
4:12 body of Christ:
Ephesians Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
4:13 unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Ephesians That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with
4:14 every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they
lie in wait to deceive;
Ephesians But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head,
4:15 even Christ:
Ephesians From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every
4:16 joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part,
maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

I Corinthians 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

I Corinthians Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
3:21
I Corinthians Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things
3:22 present, or things to come; all are yours;
I Corinthians And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
3:23

and are obliged to the performance of such duties, public and private, in an orderly
way, as to conduce to their mutual good, both in the inward and outward man.

I Thessalonians Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye
5:11 do.

I Thessalonians Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the
5:14 feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

Romans For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye
1:11 may be established;
Romans That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you
1:12 and me.

I John But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his
3:17 bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
I John My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
3:18

Galatians As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them
6:10 who are of the household of faith.

2. Saints, by profession, are bound to maintain an holy fellowship and

communion in the worship of God, and in performing such other spiritual
services, as tend to their mutual edification;

Hebrews Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that
10:23 promised;)
Hebrews And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
10:24
Hebrews Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but
10:25 exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Hebrews Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing
3:12 from the living God.
Hebrews But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened
3:13 through the deceitfulness of sin.

as also in relieving each other in outward things according to their several abilities
and necessities;

Acts Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the
11:29 brethren which dwelt in Judaea:
Acts Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
11:30
which communion, according to the rule of the gospel, though especially to be
exercised by them, in the relations wherein they stand, whether in families,

Ephesians And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture
6:4 and admonition of the Lord.

or churches,

I Corinthians For the body is not one member, but many.

12:14
I Corinthians If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it
12:15 therefore not of the body?
I Corinthians And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it
12:16 therefore not of the body?
I Corinthians If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were
12:17 hearing, where were the smelling?
I Corinthians But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath
12:18 pleased him.
I Corinthians And if they were all one member, where were the body?
12:19
I Corinthians But now are they many members, yet but one body.
12:20
I Corinthians And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head
12:21 to the feet, I have no need of you.
I Corinthians Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are
12:22 necessary:
I Corinthians And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon
12:23 these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more
abundant comeliness.
I Corinthians For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together,
12:24 having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
I Corinthians That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the
12:25 same care one for another.
I Corinthians And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member
12:26 be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
I Corinthians Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
12:27
yet as God offereth opportunity, is to be extended to all the household of faith, even
all those who in every place call upon the name of the Lord Jesus; nevertheless their
communion one with another as saints, doth not take away, or infringe the title or
property which each man hath in his goods and possessions.

Acts Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own
5:4 power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but
unto God.

Ephesians Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands
4:28 the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
