Athletic and Extra-curricular Activity Participation Fee Structure

The Shelton Board of Education has committed financially to fund through its budget a
total of 63% of the costs associated with the operation of athletic and extra-curricular
activities. The Board is requiring the participants to fund the other 37% of the
associated costs. The specific dollar amount required to be raised through participation
fees is $370,000.00 for the 2010-2011 school year.

The fees will be structured as follows:


Shelton High School
$500 per player, ice hockey
$400 per player, per sports w/officials (football, soccer swimming, volleyball,
baseball, softball, wrestling, basketball, lacrosse)
$300 per player, per sport w/out officials (cross country, indoor track,
cheerleading, golf, tennis, outdoor track & field)
$100 per participant, per high school activity* (marching band, color guard,
robotics, pom pons, drama club-spring musical) *activity defined as non-
academic, requiring a paid advisor, meeting outside of the normal school day

Shelton Intermediate School


$200 per player, per Intermediate School sport w/officials (volleyball,
basketball, baseball, softball)
$150 per Intermediate School sport w/out officials (cross country, track & field,
cheerleading)
$100 per Intermediate School activity* (SHS marching band, SHS color guard,
jazz band)
*activity defined as non-academic, requiring a paid advisor, meeting outside of
the normal school day

All fees will be subject to a maximum total Family Cap amount of no more than $750
per family. No family will be required to pay any more than $750 for any combination
of sports or activities from either school regardless of the sports or activities
participating in and/or the number of children participating.

Parents are eligible to apply for a waiver for a reduction of participation fees or for a
payment plan based on hardship. There will be no complete fee waivers. All participants
will be required to contribute somewhat financially toward the cost. Forms are available
on the Athletic and School District website.
