Principal’s Corner
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome back to another exciting school year! I hope your summer was full of fun and family. Here at
Likelike, our summer was filled with a wonderful ELO (summer school) program for our students. Our
students participated in reading, math, yoga, science, PE and the arts classes. We also had cooking and
banking classes for grades 2 and 3 respectively. Overall it was a great experience for both students and
faculty!
We received excellent news this summer. Likelike made AYP and has returned to the NCLB status of Good
Standing Unconditional!! I would like to thank everyone in the Likelike Ohana: teachers, students, parents,
community members for all their hard work and support this past school year! It was difficult with
renovations, furloughs, etc. but everyone was able to pull together and focus and I believe that made the
difference.
As we begin this year, we must bid a fond aloha to Mrs. Lynne Tagomori. Mrs. Tagomori retired after many
dedicated years at Likelike Elementary. She touched many, many lives working in several grade levels.
Mrs. Tagomori will be missed dearly and we all wish her much happiness in her retirement!
We do have some new faculty and staff members, please help me welcome them. Our new kindergarten
teacher is Ms. Jenna Neely. Ms. Neeley is starting her career with us at Likelike and we are looking forward
to working with her. Ms. Esther Lee is also a new teacher starting her career here; she joins the Special
Education department. Ms. Lee comes to us with many different experiences and we are fortunate to have her
on board. We have Mr. Wilisoni Fatafehi as our counselor intern this year. Mr. Fatafehi most recently spent
time at McKinley High School as a counselor. In the cafeteria we have Ms. Rowena Supnet as our new
cafeteria helper. Ms. Supnet comes to us from Lanakila Elementary. I am very excited about all our new
faculty and staff members as they all have so much to offer Likelike and will be able to add diversity and
different perspectives.
The year promises to be great. The faculty is committed to remain focused and continue to work hard towards
both NCLB and school goals. We all look forward to the year!
Sincerely,
Stacey S. Oshio

Strive for Perfect Attendance
No Absences
No Tardies
Students who have perfect attendance for the entire year with no absences or tardies will
participate in a special perfect attendance activity!
It is absolutely necessary for your child to come to school everyday if he/she is to make
progress and keep up with the class. Doctor or dentist appointments should be scheduled
during non-school hours. Family trips should also be planned during non-school days.
Your child’s education, health and safety are important to us. If your child is ill and will be
absent from school, please call the office at 832-3370 ext. 400 and leave a message. Inform
the office clerk of your name and your child’s name, grade and teacher’s name.
Please make your best effort to have your child in school and on time daily.
In addition to improving student achievement, we are teaching our students to be responsible.
Breakfast and Lunch
Meal Tracker System
Likelike School is on the Meal Tracker system for breakfast & Lunch services.
This system requires families to pay in advance for their child/children’s meals. Deposit
envelopes are on the front counter of the office, please make sure to have exact monies. If
you submitted a new application for free/reduced meals for this SY 2010-2011, letters are
being sent home with the student once eligibility is determined. Monies must be received in a
timely manner to avoid interruption of regular meal service to your child. Another option is to
pack a home lunch for your child until a deposit can be made to their meal tracker account.
Any questions/concerns, please inquire with our school office. Thank you for your continued
cooperation.

Schools under the jurisdiction of School Food Services Branch(SFSB) cannot substitute a non-dairy
beverage for fluid milk to students without recognized disabilities for the following reasons:
SFSB suggests that schools communicate this decision to all households at the beginning of the
school year to minimize the number of written requests submitted for non-dairy beverage
substitutes.
Students with a recognized disability as described in the current Hawaii Standards and Procedures for
Free and Reduced-Priced Meals, Attachment J-Special Dietary Needs will be provided a beverage
substitute based on the written statement from a licensed physician.
