It is good to have friends. It is even better to have
friends for a long time. I like the way our church
continues to build friendships. Can we do better? Of
course we can. But it is good to see the closeness God
is building here. One of our slogans is Faith – Family –
Friends. I like that! Life Groups are the best place to get
to know others at Eastmont.
Speaking of friends. Coach Joe Gibbs was having a
tough football season and felt very alone. He
told his wife “My dog is my only friend. A man needs at
least two friends.” She bought him another dog.
Our next Membership Conversation Class will be
held three times in September. If you know someone
who has been visiting, offer to attend one of the classes
with them. We meet in the sanctuary. The dates are
September 9 @ 5 p.m. – September 23 @ 9:20 a.m. –
September 30 @ 9:20 a.m.
E Stanley Jones was a Methodist missionary. He is
sometimes called the “Billy Graham of India.” He once
wrote “I am better or worse as I pray more or less.” We
all are that way and so is our church. I hope you pray
daily for yourself, your family, your church and for the
lost to be saved.
God has blessed Eastmont this summer. I believe it
has been one of our strongest in years. Thank you for
being faithful in so many ways. Always be on the look
out for opportunities to tell people about the good things
happening at your church. A positive word about Christ
is even more important. A simple act of kindness can
make an eternal difference.
Football season starts and I am reminded of an article
in Moody Magazine about excuses someone might use
for not going to games. I think you see the connection:
Every time I went they asked me for money.
The people sitting near me were not very friendly.
Some games went into overtime.
The coach never came to visit me.
The band played songs I didn’t know.
I’ll see you Sunday
and I’ll try not to go into overtime.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Please prayerfully consider joining our Preschool and
Children’s Ministry this September through July 2019 to teach,
serve, and love on our children on Sundays with our Crawlers,
Toddlers (prefer a male volunteer), and Special Needs Buddies
during Life Group at the 9:20 am or during Preschool Worship
once a month at the 10:30am service.

Soapbox
September 8th at the State Capitol on Dexter, 9am
Registration, 10am Race. Eastmont is the host church for
the race this year and we are in need of 2 Timers at the
finish line, 1 Flagman, 1 Starter, 1 Announcer, 6 Loaders, 4
Catchers, and 2 Trailer Haulers. Please share your interest in
volunteering with Jeremy Lynch or Heath Corwin.
Preschool and Children’s Committee
October 21, meeting in room 112
WorldSong Children’s Missions Camp
October 19-20. We will leave from Montgomery at 2:30pm
on Friday and return to Montgomery at 7pm. Cost is Event
$50 per person, includes lodging and meals. Children will
hear from missionaries and learn about living out the Great
Commission among refugees. Participants will experience
another culture through food, customs, crafts and other fun
activities. If you pay before Sept 16th, the cost is $40 per
person.

TIMEOUT WEDNESDAYS AT 6:15pm
Wednesdays our students meet upstairs for worship and
teaching. Our current series is MY STORY, and our desire
is to equip our students to more effectively share how
Christ has personally worked in their own lives.
YOUTH ON MISSION
The Fall Semester of YOM begins September 9, at 5:00
p.m. We have new groups and leaders, and a fresh
approach to Bible study and missions. Don’t miss this
weekly gathering.
FALL RETREAT, OCTOBER 6-8
Our students will stay at Laguna Beach Christian Retreat
near Panama City Beach, Florida. The cost for the weekend
is $40 per person. Information packets are available
