Topic: Things we wear

Learning objectives:

Listening:
1. To be able to listen and remember precisely how each word is pronounced.
2. To be able to identify the stresses in each word.

Speaking:
1. To be able to repeat with accuracy the way each word is pronounced.
2. To be able to use the word correctly in the context of a sentence.

Reading:
1. To acquire word recognition skills to be able to identify and recognize words
naturally on sight.
2. To be exposed to new and existing key words at various stages of development.
3. Read and understand phrases, sentences and paragraphs in the context of a whole
piece of text.
4. Read aloud expressively and fluently with no significant lapses in pronunciation of
words.

Learning activities:

Introduction/Set Induction (10 minutes)

- Pupils look at the pictures (as shown in Appendix 1) showing different types of clothing.
Pupils talk about where they can find different clothing such as beaches, party, dinner,
football match, etc.
- Pupils are asked to name the clothes and choose appropriate clothing to wear suit to a
particular event.

Development Stage (15 minutes)


- Use an audio approach (i.e. sing a simple song, song lyric shown in Appendix 2) to
enhance the learning process.
- Teacher reads aloud a text (shown in Appendix 3) and pupils listen.
- Pupils read aloud the text after teacher. Check that pupils observe the correct stress and
intonation.
- Teacher introduces the vocabulary to students. Students listen and repeat word with
teacher while looking at the picture.
- Finally, teacher reveals the pictures one after another and students name those items
shown in each picture independently.

Practice Stage (25 minutes)


- As shown in appendix 4, teacher issues a few pictures to each student. Students are asked
to spell with accuracy the vocabulary they have previously learned.
- Teacher divides students into few groups and distributes a piece of paper to each group.
Students are then required to draw out the pictures of clothing which best suit the
situation given (shown in Appendix 5).

Production Stage (10 minutes)


- This is a feedback session where teacher asks each student to present their drawing to
others in the class. This is an interactive session requires all students to tell their fellow
classmates about their idea why the apparel being chosen is most suitable for the
situation given.

Reflection

Most of the students participated and interested of learning during this lesson. Many students
raised their hands to provide their ideas during this teaching and learning progress. Most of

them were able to give accurate answer. Upon introducing the song about clothing people
wear (see Appendix 2), most of the students were very enthusiastic. It was a fruitful start to
the lesson. In the final stage, 100% of the students were able to identify and explain where
they can find or wear the clothing.

Comprehension text

Too hot! Too Cold!


Sometimes we feel too hot or too cold. When it is too cold outside, we need to wear
jacket. Jacket can keep us warm. When it is hot outside, we can wear singlet. We can also go
swimming when the weather is too hot. There are many things we can do to feel better when
we are too hot or too cold.
