Highly and urgently recommended.”

“In Deep DownThings, Jensen’s writing takes on

the quality of his subject: our living earth. Here,
as in an old-growth forest, where individual
trees fall to create gaps in the canopy, Jensen’s
musings allow light to penetrate and support
the understory. The understory in this small
book is the environment—dirt, rain, wind, and
root—and how we humans are bonded to it.
Jensen considers this relationship from a per-

bits of his own experience to demonstrate the
dynamic between person and place, inner mind
and outer space. He tells us of the Belgian draft

“Of all the Roman Catholic missionaries to
Asia, the Italian Jesuit Ippolito Desideri
(1684–1733) was perhaps the most remark-

and Zen literature shines through in this highly accessible vol-

messages in these teachings are timeless and that ‘engaged

“Bad Dog! is simply the best book on the wisdom of liv-

way good literature does. Indeed, it is very well written,
which is unusual for the genre. I always say, take great care

“The controversy surrounding full female ordination
is one of the most pressing issues facing modern Bud-
dhism. Dignity and Discipline is without a doubt the
most valuable book on the subject to date, and should
be required reading for anyone interested in contem-
porary Buddhism. Intended to effect real progress, the
book begins with the assumption that full ordination
is inevitable and charts a course to bring it about,
investigating history and the doctrinal issues that must
be settled before the Tibetan and Theravadan sanghas
embrace such change.”—Buddhadharma
