ABSTRACT
Anemia in pregnancy is defined as a condition of mothers with the levels of
hemoglobin (Hb) below 11 g% in the first and third trimesters. Anemia is mostly caused by iron deficiency and acute hemorrhage. Sei Jang Health Center is the highest coverage of the iron tablets supplementations (95.14%) compared to other health centers located in Tanjungpinang City. This research aimed to determine whether there is a correlation between the consumption of iron tablets of third trimester pregnant mother to the status of anemia in Sei Jang Health Centre Tanjungpinang in May of 2010. The research method is analytic survey with cross sectional approach with sample of 59 respondents. The variables of this research are the consumption of iron tablets, and the status of anemia in third trimester pregnant mother. Data collected using questionnaires and Hb Sahli to determine the number of mothers who consumed iron tablets and the status of anemia of third trimester pregnant mother. Data processed by univariate and bivariate analysis and chi square statistical test. The results showed that out of 59 respondents there were 51 people (86,4%) of respondents who consumed iron tablets and 8 people (13,6%) respondents did not consume iron tablets .And on the examination of hemoglobin, the results there were 52 people (88.1%) respondents did not have anemia and the remaining 7 people (11.9%) suffered from anemia. Based on chi-square statistical test showed x2 count > X2 table, which is 22.92 > 3.841, which means "There is a relationship between the consumption of iron tablets of third trimester pregnant women to the status of anemia in Sei Jang Health Centre Tanjungpinang." It is expected that health workers and relevant agencies to improve the health care, especially to pregnant women about the importance of mothers to consume iron tablets given.
