Papermaking
The invention of paper has been attributed to the chinese Ts Ai
Lun who in 75 had the idea to produce a sheet of paper from old
textile especially hemp and even silk. The first paper was produced
from recycled materials. Probably mulberry, bamboo fibers, scraps of
rope and even fishermen's nets would be used in the first workshops.
And like all Chinese inventions the papermaking was held in great
secrecy.Shortly after that, the paper proved to be so useful that in a
few decades it has been introduced in the state administration and
then it was decreed a state monopoly.
3. Pollution Prevention. Manufacture of most
products causes pollution from industrial processes
such as production and energy use. Also, waste
disposal in landfill sites or other such causes severe
pollution problems.
4. Protecting natural habitats. Raw materials are
sometimes exploited by mining, a process that takes
place in areas where natural flora and fauna life is
endangered.
5. Preventing future problems. Recycling is an
economic process with long-term effect. By decrea-
sing the amount of raw materials causes an increase
in their price, and hence products on the market,
which can cause great economic instability.
WHY ARE WE RECYCLING?
 To manufacture one tonne of paper there are
used between 2 and 3.5 tons of trees that are cut
about 20 trees.
 By recycling one ton of paper there are saved 17
trees.
 By recycling one ton of paper there are saved:
- 30 000 liters of water,
- 4200 kwh,
- 2.5 m3 of space for waste disposal.
 To recycle a ton of paper it is used between 28
and 80% less electricity compared to ordinary
paper-making and reduce air pollution by 95%
because the contaminant is released to 27 kg less.
• 40% of the waste discarded by people are represented only by
paper.
• The U.S. paper discarded each year could provide heat for 5
million homes.
PAPER WHICH YOU SHOULDN'T
RECYCLE
Waxed paper.
Paper packaging used for
toxic products.
Waterproof paper bags.
Fax paper.
The paper which was recycled
four times.
Paper diapers.
Paper damaged by decay.
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
PAPER AND POLLUTION
Benefits to nature by recycling waste
paper are very important and they
are reducing, by this way, the
pollution of:
industrial water with approx. 60%
water (in general) with approx. 45%
Air with approx. 75%
 electricity consumption
around 45%
 amount of timber harvested.

THE STAGES OF A CORRECT
COLLECTION
- collecting papers that can not be
used for packing or written
- crushing cardboard boxes to occupy
a smaller space
- the storage of all these in a special
place to collect paper
ENVIRONMENTALISTS TIPS ON
PAPER RECYCLING
 fotocopy and print the both sizes and reuse the paper until the last
corner
 reduce the number of copies of each document (do not make more
than you need)
 buy recycled paper and recycle the used paper
 use a fax with a common paper so that you can reuse and recycle
the paper
 buy a canvas to the coffee filter instead of those made of paper
 buy a single copy of a publication and allow it to be read by others
 write on both sides of a sheet of paper or use papers that do not
need as drafts, then gather them and take them for recycling.
Remember to remove staples, paper clips, plastic covers
 do not rush to pick up small pieces of paper, keep them for small
notes for temporary use and then take them for recycling
Every society needs individuals to plant
mango trees without thinking if they will
or will not manage to eat the fruits.
