The Astonished Penny Farthing: The Development

The Treatment
Act1

The scene starts with an old calendar of something recognisable from the 1940’s, which
goes to reveal the protagonist. Looking from behind the Old Penny farthing Emerges from
the garage door it had rested behind for so long, it opens on its own revealing a white light
purposely not revealing the world outside.

Act2

He, wobbly gets to the street and see’s a motor bike ride past him, in slow motion the bike
winks with a flash in the eye. Back in real time the O. Farthing aka Fenar, is scared as it
zooms past him, his body stretches diagonally like a cat shocked by a spray of water, and
hops backwards. He regains himself and continues to wonkily roll down the street, which is
when a 2 seated bike rolls past, and again jacks back in astonishment. Fenar looks at his little
wheel and gives it a little shake; He feels upset after having looked at all the improved
versions of himself and begins to look physically deflated.

Act3

A little girl bike rides beside him, uses her tassels to pat his wheel and tugs him into a bike
shop. Fenar re appears and is officially ‘pimped’; he now has jewellery around his tires, fire
tassels and a pretty sweet pair of sunglasses/ a honker. He now pushes his chest out/tire,
stands proud. The motor bike glances over and see’s Fenar’s new look, with a smile it revs
its engine, Fenar honks his horn. A spaceship noise gradually gets louder, and a hover bike
fly’s past all three bikes. The three of them slightly raise their shoulders/wheels before they
let them drop dramatically as they stare “with gaping mouths” at the hover bike floating
past.

Act1

. Fenar leaves the now open Garage

Act2

.Fenar encounters the motorbike and later the little girl bike.

Act3

. He gets a new look in order to fit in with the times

. All 3 bikes find an even better model hover past them.

The Premise
An old Penny Farthing finds itself in an era where it is no longer new, He upgrades his looks
to fit in, but little does it know that no matter how many times you upgrade they’ll always
be something newer.

The Logline
Fenar happens to be an Old Penny farthing in a new era, He realises that, due to his style or
age, and he is no longer desirable. He believes by having a makeover he can solve this
problem.

The Synopsis
An old farthing enters a period where he is no longer the desired product. On his journey he
encounters a stylish motorbike and cute girly bike. With the help of a new friend he is
transformed into a very sought-after piece of machinery and also learns a harsh lesson in
not being satisfied with one self.
