The Good Party Celebrates Everyday Independence

Victoria Reggie Kennedy will receive Goodwill’s Independence Award June 15

BOSTON (March 28, 2011) – Goodwill helps people facing barriers achieve independence and
dignity through work. That’s why the theme of this year’s The Good Party, Goodwill’s signature
gala event, will be Celebrating Everyday Independence.

To highlight this theme, Goodwill will present Victoria Reggie Kennedy with its first-ever
Independence Award in appreciation for all her husband Sen. Edward M. Kennedy did to assist
people with disabilities. Sen. Kennedy’s legacy includes the enactment and successful
implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that he authored more than 20
years ago. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. Mrs.
Kennedy has continued to champion many of the causes that her husband fought for during his
lifetime.

“There is no better person to receive this award than Mrs. Kennedy,” said Joanne K. Hilferty,
president and CEO of Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries. “Sen. Kennedy helped change the
paradigm for working with individuals with disabilities. He put the emphasis on individuals and
what they can do – not on their disabilities. Goodwill has the same focus.”

The Good Party raises awareness of and financial support for Goodwill and its mission to
provide exemplary job training and related services to help individuals with disabilities and other
barriers to self-sufficiency to achieve independence and dignity through work. It also honors the
more than 9,000 men, women and young adults who take a confident first step towards a good
job—and a better life—by enrolling in one of Goodwill’s many job training, career services, or
youth programs.

The Good Party will be held June 15, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. under a huge tent at Goodwill’s
headquarters at 1010 Harrison Avenue. As with previous Good Parties, it will be a Bubble Q –
champagne and an assortment of BBQ-inspired dishes from local restaurants will be served.
There will also be musical entertainment. The event is being coordinated by Rafanelli Events.
