Introduction to Photovoltaic
TECHNICAL SEMINAR
Solar (photovoltaic or PV) modules produce DC electricity directly from sunlight with no moving parts. Solar modules have been around for over 50 years and in mass production since 1979. The reliability of PV is such that 20 to 25 year power warranties are typical, with life expectancies beyond 30 years.

TECHNICAL SEMINAR
Solar pumps are very cost-effective for remote applications (where utility interconnect costs more than $5000).
Off-grid homes and cabins Livestock watering: pond and stream protection, rotational grazing, remote pasturing Aquaculture: aeration, circulation, and deicing. Irrigation: best for small scale applications

Advantage
TECHNICAL SEMINAR
Reliable and long life Produces water during sunny weather when its needed most Low labor and maintenance costs No fuel costs Easy to remove, transport, and store Non-polluting
MANOJ KUMAR SAHU EI200117103
Disadvantage
TECHNICAL SEMINAR
Potentially high initial system cost Decreased water production in cloudy weather Water storage and/ or battery needed for providing full time water Must have good sun exposure between 9 am and 3 pm

Conclusion
TECHNICAL SEMINAR
Solar energy is there where you need it. You do not need to truck it to your pasture. When the sun is shining brightly, making the cattle more thirsty, the PV system is also pumping more water for them. When it is overcast and rainy, the PV system will not pump as much water, but the cattle will not need as much drinking water during cloudy weather. Therefore, using solar generated electricity to pump water for livestock can be cost-effective and reliable. But the system needed a lot to be developed & widely accepted.
