Reading: This week, our focus is on main idea and
relevant details, as well as chronological order (sequence of events). Students will be answering these types of questions in their reading: What is the most important lesson? At the END of the story? What happens BEFOREbut AFTER? During your childs independent reading time this week, take a few minutes to read a chapter in their book, and ask a couple of these questions! Writing: We are continuing to work on planning and elaboration in our writing. Last week, we worked on narratives (stories), and this week, well be trying expositories (writing to explain). Elaboration is a vital skill for students to be able to demonstrate. Students have been doing some self-reflection to determine if they are meeting the days goals and objectives. Ask your child how they rated themselves this week: exemplary, competent, developing or emerging

Create a collage on a sheet of white paper by cutting out items from magazines that can be measured in inches, feet, and yards (the actual item, not the size of the picture in the magazine). Be sure to label each item telling if it should be measured in inches, feet, or yards. You must have at least 3 things you can measure in inches, 3 things you can measure in feet, and 3 things you can measure in yards.

Ordering Fractions Equivalent Fractions Take your textbook home to practice these difficult skills!

We will also be focusing on Measurement concepts this week and next, specifically customary units of length. Ask your child to use a ruler or tape measure around the house to practice measuring items to the nearest inch, inch and inch. Real world problems are great to use as practice!
