Sometimes historians refer to the French and Indian War as the First World War. Why do you think that is? Wars between the British and the French in Europe necessarily spilled over into America.(p 48) It is sometimes known as a World War because 1) it was being fought on both sides of the Atlantic, and 2) other than protecting their North American interests, England was allied with other European countries in order to defeat King Louis XIV in France. Some acceptable answers: secured needed territory, sowed seeds for later union, with the French defeated colonists did not need to rely on England heavily for defense, created a hero in George Washington, The performance and attitudes of the British soldiers made an impression on the colonial citizens. Be able to tell more about this. This referred to the passage at the top of page 58. How did the end of the French and Indian War change the relationship of England and her colonies? British patriotism, love of William Pitt, a shared common cause or vision (they were united by a common enemy), the colonists felt that had contributed to the interests of the British Empire, They expected England to acknowledge their contributions.
