The French and Indian War was momentous because it helped Americans gain a feeling
of nationalism which led to America later gaining its independence from the British Empire. In
the document "The Real First World War and the Making of America," Fred Anderson, the
author provides the reader with many valid statements regarding the Seven Year War. Fred
Anderson, believes the war had help lay a base and shape America. The French and Indian War
was critical because it had been a part in leading Colonial America to gain independence and
The winning of the Seven Years War was a great accomplishment. It had allowed for the
Colonies to expand West. In the document Anderson mentions Native Indians not being happy
with the outcome of the war, considering they had allied with the French. The native people
knew that they were doomed, because leading up to the the war Indians had been decreasing in
population. The aftermath of the war was not in the colonists favor, Great Britain had laid an
additional tax, “The Stamp Act” to cover the dept of the war. Also the “Quartering Act” was
another unfavored part the colonists disliked about Great Britain. All these acts led to the British
Colonies wanting to gain independence. The war itself was not the turning point, the treatment
following from the Parliament and King was the rising action. All events after were leading up to
Anderson says, “the fate of the native peoples is a melancholy historical inevitability.”
Even though, they allied with the French, the British Empire was too strong for the war. After the
war colonist felt liberated and shared a feeling of togetherness that they used to their advantage.
By having the French and Indian war colonists had a basic understanding of how their war was
going to work going into the American Revolution, and this led to their success.
