p3 Introduction This study is based upon the character of Van Helsing and his transformations within the movie Van Helsing. The source thats been analysed is the mythology of werewolves and Egyptian mythology based upon this movie. In Egyptian mythology Anubis is related to the wolf and this is connected to Van Helsing. Jesus being associated with wolves and West Indians believe animals such as the wolf is a good symbol and is a religion is associated with the Indians. Main Body Van Helsing is a monster killer who transforms into a wolf during the film as Roger Ebert states Here he's a professional monster-killer. (Ebert 2004) Van Helsing transformation is very common because Helsing changes every time hes in contact with the moon. This is a characteristic of all films that have werewolves in them. Transformations always relate to the moon, are very symbolic and have a strong connection to wolf mythology. Some humans believe that there is such a thing as human and wolf transformation but many do not believe.

Fig 1 Van Helsing Werewolves can be viscous and harmful to others. Wolf mythology is a good thing and a bad one. The reason is that wolfs have a human side, as this is shown when van Helsing transforms and attacks the women which he holds her and screams and gradually turns back to a human. This shows the wolf has much as human instinct and has a human emotion. Hilary Stewart states, The wolf was revered because it is a good hunter. It is often associated with the special spirit power that man had to acquire to become a successful hunter (Stewart 1979). This is because West Indians are religious and find wolfs to be inspiring. As wolves give off a good energy and have a spiritual power. West Indians believe that wolves are cultural. As Indians believe wolves are not harmful. They have a spiritual power that is connected to humans. Men are known to have anger as Helsing is interpreted to how wolves are generally capable of reacting. How they are shown in a film such as Van Helsing. It appears that werewolfs being a symbol of a human, is relating to early ancestors how they are part of an animal. Werewolves though beasts are wild and viscous, but can be less frightening. The moon is the symbol which changes the process of Van Helsing transformation. A wolf shows a dark side,

p4 because the mind and soul of a wolf indicates a human one. Jesus was associated with wolves and this leads the story which will be analysed in depth and discovers about the wrath to his followers.

The most interesting is image two. Helsing is transformed to a Werewolf. The boldness is effective with the realistic fur and red eye look. But its very scary and has a horror glare to it. The werewolf has evolved into a different species from the beginning. During the time wolves have changed during stages in an unrealistic existence, where they are imagined to be part human. But in terms its said that human are part wolf. Religion says it could be in a relation to demons.

Fig 2 Gabriel Transformation

He throws the coffin off the cart and onto the ground. He and Morris tear off the lid and face their adversary. Whose red eyes glared with the horrible vindictive look I knew too well. (Beal) This is like always the scene in the vampire movies. Its looking deep into the eyes as they glare red. This shows a demon fear. That relates to the devil as such as red eyes. In the movie Van Helsing as the wolf, his eyes are glowing red. This has a connection to cultural religious views. As humans believe wolfs is only true until you see it. But in a human transformation. Wolves and human are a complete hybrid. This is in a human creation. Films and religions are the main body to creating the myth of wolfs and evolve to being human. Transformations of Van Helsing are interesting. The start Van Helsing has been attacked by another wolf, which causes the change. Owen Gleiberman a writer states that When ordinary men would sprout hair and grow fangs, their faces taking on the cast of the devil within. Gleiberman (2004) Van Helsing is in a position where in the movie Helsing ripped of his clothes, the final look of him when hes a wolf. The look of the muscle tones and the human shape has great use of symbolism to animal and human. As both of these concepts is a mixture. When Gleiberman says that cast of the devil within may mean the look of his eyes symbolize the eye of the devil. This shows an evil character of Helsing as a werewolf. But it tales a good side of being Van Helsing as the wolf side of him is not bad as Helsing is human in the film.

It states in the bible In the New Testament, Jesus is quoted to have used wolves as illustrations to the dangers His followers would have faced should they follow him (Matthew 10:16, Acts 10:29, Matthew 7:15). To the dangers of Jesus followers says there will be danger if you follow me. Jesus would do this to make a point is disturbing. That Jesus has something that he cannot say to his follows. When Jesus says its very much that hes associated to wolf because as he states that follow me and you well face dangers. This Is Jesus unleashing his wrath and anger. This symbolises the strength, but Jesus could have a dark side in the relation to wolves. It could mean that Jesus has a mind of a wolf. Jesus is not the only one to be associated with wolves Anubis is one that is told to be part wolf and human. This is leading on to mythology about Anubis as much hes a god but may be wolf. In Egyptian mythology the god Wepwawet who unlike Anubis was associated with werewolfs in the 12th Dynasty this states Some to believe that he may have originally been associated with the wolf. During the 12th Dynasty Wepwawet was the Nome god for the 13th Nome of Upper Egypt, which the Greeks called "Lycopolis" (Wolf City). This show that even in Egyptian mythology there are signs that Wepwawet believe in wolfs and have associated with them. But the images of Wepwawet have a strong definition to his look. The mask of Anubis looks like the wolf. This may seem that hes part wolf and man. As this shows most of his body is human. Wepwawet may have believed to be half human and wolf.

Fig 4 Anubis and Jackal

The image based upon wolf is it associate to Anubis as part of the death god as it states Ancient Egyptian cult of Anubis, whose priests wore a wolf-like mask representing this jackal-headed god of death. (Monstrous) This may mean that Anubis was a god of death but then it links very well to the mask of a wolf, as this could be the sign of evil. It may show the spirit of a hunter but might be related to a demonic side of conspiracy. Also image three shows a lot of depth of how Anubis looks like. As it has a mysterious approach and the mask is shaped as a wolf, though a dominate appearance to visualise a human and an animal. As Anubis and wolf both are merged together to creating a animal, which is known to be in movies such as The Wolf man. In image four has a unique feel to the jackal but its designed to look as much as a Wolf. As the images are really the

p6 same as they give at energy of both animals. This leading to the film Van Helsing is showing the transformation to the visual effects of how he is connected by the moon. As this is a strong symbol to wolf that they give of a reaction to the transformation.

Conclusion

In conclusion, analysis of Van Helsing just basically shows the transformation. As it appears that Anubis is associated with wolfs as they are superior together. It is arguable that based upon the animals of the wolf and Anubis they are very well common to religion. Although both wolfs and jackals have a unique way of myth as they show great characteristics of the acceptance of spiritual life of energy. The intelligence of human nature is comparison to human life and how culture and believes are well related to the form of animals. The bible also indicates as Jesus is connected to wolf is known to being a myth. But shows a dark approach to demonstrate how Jesus reacts as a animal. But mainly werewolfs being good or evil is not known. If really there is a right or wrong answer if this is true or not.
