THE FUTURE TENSE

WILL/SHALL + INFINITIVE
Instant decisions e.g. I like this coat. I think Ill buy it.

BE GOING TO + INFINITIVE
Future plans or intentions Planned actions in your own head, actions we have decided to do before we speak. e.g. Were going to get married in summer.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Future arrangements Planned actions with other people at a particular time. Things we have arranged in the past to do in the future. e.g. Were getting married on July 12th. NOTE: We cant use the present continuous for future events that we cant arrange. e.g.* The sun is shining tomorrow. The sun will shine tomorrow.

Offers and promises e.g. Ill carry your bags for you. Shall I help you with your bags?* I wont forget your birthday again.

Suggestions e.g. Shall we go to the cinema?* Predictions Things we believe will happen in the future. e.g. Im sure youll enjoy the film. * We use shall with 1st person singular or plural
in interrogative sentences.

Predictions Things we expect to happen because the situation now indicates that they are going to happen. e.g. Hes running towards the goal and hes going to score.
