Evolve Digital Level 3 – English 3

Grammar summary
Unit 4 Lesson 1: “be going to” and “will” for predictions
• Use be going to and will or won’t to make predictions.
• Don’t use will to make a prediction when there is evidence (when you know or
can see something now). Instead, use be going to.
• Use I think and I don’t think before a prediction to express your opinion.
• Use will or be going to instead of the simple present in predictions with I think.

Examples:
“It’s going to be a beautiful day. You won’t need your raincoat.”
“There are any clouds. It isn’t going to rain.”
“It’s hot today. We’ll need some water on the hike.”
“I think we’ll want some food when we get to the top.”
“I think you’re going to love the zoo.”

Unit 4 Lesson 2: “will” for sudden decisions; present continuous for

future plans
• We use the word sudden to say something happens very quickly, with no
warning.
• You can make a sudden decision. This means you decide to do something at
that moment, without spending a lot of time thinking about it.
• Use will and will not or won’t to talk about sudden decisions, made at the
moment you speak.

Examples:
“I’ll have the chocolate cake, please.”
“I just realised Jamie is late for work. I’ll ask him why.”

• Use the present continuous for future plans made in the past.

Examples:
“I’m going to a party later.”
“We’re taking a Caribbean cruise next Saturday.”
