Future Tenses
‘will/won’t’
• We use ‘will’ and ‘won’t’ (also called
the Future Simple tense) for
predictions about the future (usually
without evidence).
e.g. Apes will rule the world.

• Structure:
+ S + ‘will’ + V1
- S + ‘won’t + V1
? Will / Won’t + S + V1 … ?
Future Tenses
‘will/won’t’
• We also use ‘will’ and ‘won’t’ for spontaneous decisions,
promises and offers.
e.g. I’ll just make a quick cup of tea.
I promise I will never hurt you.
I will give you a 10% discount because you are so
beautiful.
Future Tenses
Present Continuous
• We use the Present Continuous more for arrangements with other
people.
e.g. Fitri is coming to my house to watch a movie tonight.
• Structure:
+ S + am/is/are + V-ing
- S + am/is/are + not + V-ing
? Am/Is/Are + S + V-ing … ?
Future Tense with ‘going to’
• We use the Future with ‘going to’ for specific
intentions.
e.g. I’m going to finish all my homework on Friday so I can enjoy my
weekend.
Rizky is going to ask Shafira on a date tomorrow.

• Structure:
+ S + am/is/are + going to + V1
- S + am/is/are + not + going to + V1
? Am/Is/Are + S + going to + V1

Future Tenses

• We also use the Future with ‘going to’ for general intentions
(not arranged), decisions already made and predictions
(when you can see the evidence).

• Ask your partner the questions in your Workbook.
• Listen to their answer for each question and make sure they use the correct future
form.

• Answer your partner’s questions.

• In English, we usually answer in the same tense as the question. This is good
practice for when you speak with native speakers.
• Listen to what future form they use in the question and think about how to answer
it correctly.
