RESOLUTION OF THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE Adopted March 1, 2012 WHEREAS the residents of Anne

Arundel County Council District 1 have been left without a Councilman for over 30 days since the removal of Daryl Jones from the County Council; WHEREAS the County Council is tasked with filling the vacancy in District 1 with a Democrat that resides in District 1, pursuant to the Anne Arundel County Charter; WHEREAS after two meetings of the Council and over 100 votes on the issue, the Council remains deadlocked and has not filled the vacancy; WHEREAS the two remaining Democratic Councilmen on the County Council, Jamie Benoit and Chris Trumbauer, are in agreement on the candidate who should fill the District 1 vacancy, and have cast over 100 votes for that candidate; WHEREAS the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee fully supports the judgment of the remaining Democratic Councilmen in their decision to support a particular candidate, especially given they are unanimous in their choice; WHEREAS the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee desires a solution to this impasse so that the disenfranchisement of over 80,000 residents of District 1 continues not one day longer; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee fully supports Councilmen Benoit and Trumbauer in their choice to fill the District 1 vacancy; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee urges the remaining Councilmen to break the deadlock regarding the filling of the District 1 vacancy and support the choice of the remaining Democratic County Councilmen; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee supports future efforts by the County Council and the Charter Review Commission to amend the County Charter to remove the County Council from the process of filling future Council vacancies.
