CACTUS LEAGUE ACTION:
The Padres enter today’s action at6-8…over the Spring slate, the Friars play a total of 34 games inArizona before heading home for a workout on 4/2 followed bytwo games against the Royals (4/3 at Petco Park and 4/4 in LakeElsinore)...have four remaining split squad games this Spring(March 18, 24, 27, 31).
YESTERDAY’S GAME:
The Padres dropped a 6-4 decision yes-terday against the Brewers at Maryvale…RHP Dustin Moseleymade his third Spring start and worked 4.0 innings of one-run ball,allowing four hits while striking out two.
TODAY’S STARTER:
RHP Tim Stauffer takes the hill for his thirdstart this Spring…made his first start on 3/6 against the Royals atSurprise and his second start 3/11 against the Dbacks at Peoria,working 2.0 innings in both games.
MARCH MADNESS:
As the San Diego State Aztecs take on NorthCarolina State this morning, a couple pairs of eyes will be keepinga close watch from Peoria in Manager Bud Black and LHP AlexHinshaw…Black pitched in two seasons for the Aztecs from 1978-79while Hinshaw pitched in one for San Diego State in 2005.
ADDITIONAL PLAYERS:
Additional players for today’s game in-clude RHPs Dennis Tankersley and Jorge Reyes, LHP Colt Hynesand Cs Rocky Gale and Ali Solis.
A FAMILIAR FACE:
Dennis Tankersley made his Major Leaguedebut for the Padres in 2002 and pitched in 27 Big League gamestotal from 2002-04, all with San Diego…he was signed to a minorleague contract on March 3, earlier this month.
FAST CASH:
Andrew Cashner has worked four scoreless outingsand 4.0 innings this Spring, allowing just three hits and two walkswhile striking out five.
LOS SPRING:
So far this Spring, Carlos Quentin has hit .533 (8-for-15) with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in six games played.
WILLING AND ABLE:
Will Venable so far this Spring is hitting .364(8-for-22) with four doubles in eight games played.
ROSTER TALK:
After two rounds of roster moves, including yes-terday’s transactions, the Padres currently have 48 players in BigLeague camp, including 34 players on the 40-man roster and 14non-roster invitees…the squad currently features 23 pitchers (fivesouthpaws), four catchers, 13 infielders and eight outfielders...entering camp, the club had 16 players on the 40-man roster whowere not at the beginning of 2011 Spring.
THE FUTURE:
Five of the Padres Top 10 prospects, according to
Baseball America,
are currently in Big League camp...list includesINF Yonder Alonso (1), C Yasmani Grandal (2), RHP Casey Kelly(4), INF Jedd Gyorko (7) and RHP Joe Wieland (8)...
Baseball America’s 
ranking of the Top 100 prospects also included Alonso(33), Grandal (53), Kelly (76) and Gyorko (98)…in total, the clubhad six players featured in the top 100 which were tied for the mostamong all clubs (also, Athletics, Cardinals and Rangers).
ROOKIE ROUND-UP:
16 of the 48 players currently in camp willqualify as rookies in the 2012 season, with six of those 16 on the40-man roster...the six consist of Brad Brach, Nick Vincent, Yas-mani Grandal, James Darnell, Andy Parrino and Jeudy Valdez.
PADRES ON THE RADIO:
Each day there is a Padres game, youwill be able to hear it broadcast in English on 1090 AM or 1700...one game will be broadcast on days there are split squad games...the action will be brought to you by Ted Leitner, Jerry Coleman,Andy Masur and newcomer Bob Scanlan...in addition, all Saturdayand Sunday games will be broadcast in Spanish on AM 860, withEduardo Ortega and Juan Avila calling the action.

The Padres, Mariners and city of Peoria an-nounced an extension earlier this month, keeping Spring Trainingbaseball at the Peoria Sports Complex until 2034...the Padres havecalled Peoria home since relocating from Yuma in 1994.
11,000 PADRES:
The Little League season has kicked off in SanDiego, with players all over the county sporting their new Padresuniforms thanks to the club’s Youth Baseball Initiative...the programhas supplied over 11,600 Little Leaguers with Padres uniforms,representing 20 different styles from throughout the club’s history.
