BRIEF: A self driven brief that explores the relationship of branding and the elements within it. To create a format by which brands can be explored, whilst informing people about the individual parts within brands and how they work together. RELATION TO DESIGN PRACTICE: This brief has given me the chance to combine the knowledge i established from my dissertation with the research from my context and create an exploration in branding. Deconstructing it in order to work out the relevant parts within branding and how it functions. I devised a system with which the separate elements within branding could be analysed to see their roles more clearly. Creating a range of

products that could be used the help this analysis. My aim was to combine my skills within publication layout, processing and typographic work to create to create this analytical study, whilst developing my skills with on-screen design.

Using the information from my dissertation and contextual research I set about deconstructing the key elements within branding. This triggered the inspiration for creating a periodic table of branding elements. This could then be used to explore brand developing that key experience for the consumer. Following the structure of the periodic table I developed and tweaked it until i felt i had created something simple, clean and minimal that could be used and recognised as a periodic table. The elements were designed in such a way that if taken individually and put together as a set you would be able to see how they interlink with one another. After designing this it allowed me to develop and explore branding elements through a range of different delivery media.

Taking on the developed identity I wanted to create an annual publication that shows a thorough investigation into the chosen element. The publication was designed on the same premise of simplicity that accompanies the style of design for the brief. I wanted to create an innovative format within the publication so that it could encompass an A3 fold out poster of the publication. Creating the grid, layout style an identity the same style would then be used across the other annuals, creating a coherent body of publications that could be used as a reference point for designers.

After creating the table and its contents I have designed and developed onscreen delivery for this product. Allowing designers to interact with branding elements, not only with a tactile product but also via web sites and app design. Following the minimal design for both the publication and elements themselves I transferred this style across to the on-screen delivery. The Website itself allows people to order and subscribe to the annual publications, forming a base for the branding elements products.

As well as people being able to subscribe to the publication and visit the website, in-keeping with the my idea of Brands becoming experiences and creating lasting memories I wanted to design something that was playful but functional. I commissioned and designed a range of hand crafted stamps that would accompany the publication, the stamp would represent the element that the publication annual would be exploring. This gave me a chance to develop my skills with regards to packaging and net design, and use the identity I created to create a range of tangible products.
