Brochure
Description: Tri-fold Brochure promoting the
attractions of the state of Ohio.

Date: July 7, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator,

Adobe InDesign

Objective: Design a brochure that features a

full-bleed, logo, quality photos and
text-wrapping.

Process: I designed a keyhole reveal in the

shape of the state of Ohio for the
brochure cover that reveals a photo of
the state flag. I manipulated photos to
appear as chalk drawings to
match the look and feel of the
chalboard style used in the
background and font-styling. After
several test prints all the elements were
lined up properly. The result was a
professional yet “homey” brochure
celebrating the state of Ohio.

Infographic
Description: A graphic representation of facts,
presented in an engaging manner

Date: June 8, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator,

Objective: Provide information regarding the

states most favorable to military
retirees. The information should be
visually engaging. Creating the
graphics was an integral part of this
project.

Process: I researched a topic that was

important to our family several years
ago, the best places for military
families to retire. After collecting the
data I wanted to present I worked on
organizing it in a way that would
attract attention but be easily
comprehended. I drew the graphics in
Illustrator and also created a chart
in Illustrator for showing some of the
data. The end result was a long flier
that looked patriotic with many facts
needed when making a decision about
where to permanently reside at the end
of a military career.

Website Mockup
Description: A website homepage for a business. A
16 column grid was used.

Date: June 22, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator,

Objective: Design a website that would showcase

a business and their services. The site
would grab the attention of the public
browsing the Internet for similar services.
This site would serve as the
web-presence of said business.

Process: I had been working with a business

identity for several previous weeks. This
project represents a culmination of that
process. The website reflects the
nature of the handyman business it
represents. It is rustic and
old-fashioned looking as are the tasks
you would expect a handyman to do.
The site also showcases the many
services a handyman can preform on
an everyday basis or seasonally.

Photo Montage
Description: An uplifting image that echos the text
incorporated on the photo.

Date: May 26, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop,

Objective: Design a new image in Photoshop from

multiple photos to create a message
with the image and a spiritual thought
in text.

Process: In Photoshop I imported two images

and then searched for a third texture
image to incorporate as well. I found
the lace image and removed the
background from the threads. Working
with all three images I blended them
into one image and applied the text
of a favorite hymn.

Description: A website that showcases the logo
making process for the business identity
created in a previous week.

Date: June 14, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator

Objective: Design a website using HTML and CSS

to showcase the creation of the logo
of the business identity I created a few
weeks previously.

Process: I created an HTML file and a CSS file.

I customized the information that had
been provided to match the look and
feel of the business identity I was
creating through these projects.

Business Indentity
Description: Printed material used by a handyman
promoting his business

Date: June 1, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator

Objective: Creating a complete business identity

through printed material for a business
that incorporates a new business logo.

Process: I created several business logos, sought

feedback and voting for the best
design. I then refined the logo that
received the most favorable comments.
I worked to incorporate the logo into
a letterhead and then a business card.
Because this is a handyman business
and tool-centric I incorporated many
tools into the design and made the
business card a measuring tool itself.

home.

Date: May 18, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop

Objective: Thoughtfully compose a photo with

a color scheme already in mind, then
enhance the photo with the Photoshop
program and a message to create
more impact.

Process: I took a photo of the railroad lines with

a vanishing point. I used Photoshop to
enhance the colors of the sky, the trees
and the rails. I incorparted the words
to a song that evokes the feeling of
traveling towards home at the end of a
long journey to find yourself.

Prezi Presentation
Description: An online presentation that helps
first-time homebuyers organize the
sequence of events needed in
purchasing a home.

Date: May 12, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

Objective: Provide first-time homebuyers with

a brief tutorial regarding the order
of events that lead to a successful
home-buying experience.

Process: I drew several of the elements for this

design in Illustrator. I also manipulated
found illustrations in Photoshop to use
in the Prezi program. I worked with the
program to reveal certain elements as
the user went through the presentation
instead of starting with a cluttered
overall view. The end shot shows all
the elements for a summary of what was
presented.

Magazine Cover
Description: A mock-up of a magazine cover that
reflects a part of my personality

Date: May 4, 2016

Course: Comm 130: Visual Media - Section 5

Instructor: Emily Kunz

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop and InDesign

Objective: Reveal part of my personality in a fun

magazine cover.

Process: I used sketches and a shape map

to start my project. I took a photo of
myself and erased the background for
the covershot. I decided to showcase
one of my less-than-desirable traits
in a humorous manner by naming the
magazine “Procrastinator’s Monthly”. I
arranged several articles around the
edge of the magazine with a circle to
show case one article.
