Operation #DROPtheDRONE

Dear Hacktivists: After seeing and hearing about the police all over the world using drones to videotape and spy on demonstrators I thought why not start a new operation. #DROPtheDRONES So here is my share towards the hacktivists. Would love to ad more Ideas and especially would like to know more about Hacking and plain simple taking over a drone. Or maybe just transmitting some anonymous video stream to the drone clients screen would be nice as well. So if you get one down please contact @ntisec through twitter. I might hook you up to some hackers you can ship it to that might be able to backwards engineer these monsters so we can just take them over next time we see one infiltrating our freedom.

WARNING
Headnote: playing wih frequencies is quite dangerous...if you misconfigure the frequencies this will not jamm only the wifi's etc but also peoples peacemakers...or other devices that keep them alive...or you could make something explode: Also a Drone falling from the sky might hit people and cause death/injury! Also all of this might be illegal. This is just hypothetical ways of having power over drones and your right to be #anonymous without Big brother watching you!

I unguided physical attack Helium balloons with nylon or other strong wire/strings attached to clog rotors.

II Microwave

Fry the Drone out of the sky with your microwave cannon This is where I must issue a WARNING!!! Microwaves are extremely dangerous. They can PERMANENTLY HARM YOU! If you feel even the slightest uncertainty towards the physics, dangers, and overall understanding of microwaves, DO NOT construct a microwave weapon. A whopping 1,000-2,000 watts of energy, quite enough for destroying electronics is coming from your old kitchen microwave, and the nice thing is its in the WIFI - 2.4 GHz band/frequency already. Inside a microwave, you'll find a large transformer (called a MOT or Microwave Oven Transformer), a large capacitor (rated around 1-2 kV; 1-100 uF), some high voltage diodes (for rectifying the alternating current from the transformer), a magnetron (the microwave emitter, and other electrical components for operating the main electronics. This DIY gadget can temporarily mess up devices even if they don't have a radio component. The effect will be determined mainly by circuit design, shielding, exposed conductors, etc. If you're lucky, you can find magnetrons from radar units. These usually operate in a pulsed mode at higher peak power, and will cause corresponding pulses in solid state electronic devices that rectify the received signal. This causes even more havoc. OK here we go. Detailed DIY plans I found online http://fear-oflightning.wonderhowto.com/blog/making-electromagnetic-weapons-directed-microwave-energy0133231/ To help you calculate the antenna dimensions http://www.wirelessconnections.net/calcs/rfsafety.asp More info on microwaves http://www.microwaves101.com/ More wisdom http://www.wa1mba.org/wavegd.htm These cheap ass drones we're talking about have a command and control link that uses off the shelf, commercial communications modules that can be interfered with or even rendered deaf by the broad band RF microwavenoise that comes out of a piece of consumer electronics made to heat a hotdog. The fact that the signal coming out of that oven is unstable in frequency, has harmonics, and is generally nasty in the extreme in artifacts, spikes, amplitude instability, and every other undesirable trait in communications RF is what make it so good at screwing with other devices. Gain of a horn antenna depends mainly on the dimensions of the open end. The larger it is, the more focused the pattern will be. Conical horns are good for circular polarization (will also work for linear), but rectangular ones are most common for linear like a magnetron puts out. Besides gain, the horn provides impedance matching between the waveguide and free space to minimize power reflected back from the aperture to the magnetron. Bolting a horn onto the open of the oven door probably won't work well, as an oven forms a resonant cavity, which isn't resonant once the door is opened. The magnetron should just be attached against the wide face of a waveguide instead. For waveguide at 2.4 GHz, a metal downspout will work. Then, there's the tedium of coupling the magnetron's 1/4 wave antenna to the waveguide

in an optimum fashion. Generally, you'd go 1/4 wave from a closed end, but the propagation velocity is not the same as in free space. It will wind up being different than a free-space 1/4 wave, depending on how much over cutoff frequency the waveguide is. For a prototype, keep things adjustable and use a field strength meter (1N21/1N23 mixer diode on a meter movement will suffice) to tune for maximum signal downrange. Don't give yourselves burn injuries or cataracts by being careless around this stuff, guys. It's good to keep a good distance between you and radiating parts!

When finished it should look something like this

III Signal Jammer Jammers can be connected to Helium balloons that you can let up by a kitewire.

A kite

Another RC drone unaffected by the gear its carrying.

Large Fishing rod.

1. 2.4 Ghz Jammer

These can be bought cheaply 40$ https://www.dealextreme.com/p/tg-130d-portable-24g-wifi-signal-jammer-2400-2500mhz-44264 or made from some old gear you have laying around. The module produces white noise in the whole spectrum between 2.4 Mhz and 2.5 Mhz The higher the output the bigger the range. DIY -> http://www.ladyada.net/make/wavebubble/index.html to build one yourself. 2. RC frequencies: 72Mhz etc

rc frequencie scanner can easily be scanned and jammed using RF jammers for selected frequencies or more crudely saturate the whole spectrum. Build your own RF Jammer: http://www.instructables.com/id/RF-Jammer/ If you want to saturate the bandwidth, you use an analog device with simple FM modulation. Eight 2.4Ghz wireless video transmitters of sufficient power would do it.

3. GPS jammer: You can build one yourself http://www.navigadget.com/index.php/2007/01/29/homemade-gps-jammer or simply order one cheap online. http://www.jammerall.com/categories/GPS-Jammers/

4. Blue tooth will be jammed together with WIFI see point II-1 under signal jammer. Its in the 2.4 Ghz range. 5. Video stream frequency Jammer 5.8GHz range can be bought online http://www.jammerall.com/products/4W-Powerful-All-WiFI-Signals-Jammer%282.4G%2C5.8G%29.html but are not that easy to find an a little expensive still. You should be able to build one yourself with an old Wifi-11a.B.G router 6. WHITE Noise the drone to oblivion. Take out every wireless hardware thing in your radius.

To realy be sure you are hitting the drone at the right band/frequency you might be able to get your hands on a Broadband White Noise generator. http://www.atlantecrf.com/products/noise_generators/index.htm These are so cool.

IVHacking If by any chance you pick up a #DROPPED drone from the street foreward it to a hacker so we know what hardware is in there and can do some pentesting on it. 1. DDos on drone WIFI ip 2. Spoof and take over 3. Sniffing (wireshark) to steal their raw packets to dissect at home to find #0day access to take over the drones the next Demonstration. 4. Infecting Would love to add more ideas, roadmaps, pentests etc to this chapter

V Camkilling Use handheld lasers to blind the thing or fry its cam-cmos Laser saturation of optics/CCD sensors

Start by attaching the laser to the gun scope in a fashion shown below. You can use any means of attachment that you want. Duct-tape, super glue, rubber bands, or string work well. Just make sure that the laser is on snugly and can be adjusted easily. Attach this unit to your tripod. Make sure that the whole unit is steady and well attached. If you plan on using this unit outdoors, it might be helpful to cover any critical components with a plastic shopping bag. a 5mW green laser is enough to blind any cam and might even damage the camcensor You can pick one up anywhere under 10$ http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=green+laser+point er&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Proof a simple direct hit from a laser can kill a cam http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&list=UUplBX6kjBH4rfBUbVWfc9LQ&v= m1-Jcs4_O-0#t=29s Laser competely burning critical components

Well these can be expensive and the more damage you wanna do the bulkier they get. But a cheap and DIY way to build one is using a laser diode from a blueraydrive. So get your xbox and hammer out. Here is a howto movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ77l23xwak
