LikertScale\lickurt\,n.

Definition:

Apsychometricresponsescaleprimarilyusedinquestionnairestoobtainparticipants preferencesordegreeofagreementwithastatementorsetofstatements.Likertscalesarea noncomparativescalingtechniqueandareunidimensional(onlymeasureasingletrait)in nature.Respondentsareaskedtoindicatetheirlevelofagreementwithagivenstatementby wayofanordinalscale.

Variations: Mostcommonlyseenasa5pointscalerangingfromStronglyDisagreeononeendto
StronglyAgreeontheotherwithNeitherAgreenorDisagreeinthemiddle;however,some practitionersadvocatetheuseof7and9pointscaleswhichaddadditionalgranularity. Sometimesa4point(orotherevennumbered)scaleisusedtoproduceanipsative(forced choice)measurewherenoindifferentoptionisavailable.Eachlevelonthescaleisassigneda numericvalueorcoding,usuallystartingat1andincrementedbyoneforeachlevel.For example:
