INTRODUCTION
IPL abbreviated as INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE is the richest cricket tournament in the world. It is organized by BCCI and supported by ICC . It was well managed by the chairperson Mr. Lalit Modi .It gained huge popularity within a short span of 2 years. Many business tycoons and celebrities are investing in this newly emerged phenomenon. Eight clubs played in IPL.

IPL CRICKET 2009 MOVED TO SOUTH AFRICA

First season of IPL was held in INDIA from 18th April to 1st June 2008 , with the victory of Rajasthan royals over Chennai super kings. The second season of IPL was to be held in INDIA but it was shifted to South Africa due to certain reasons.

REASONS BEHIND MOVEMENT OF IPL TO SOUTH AFRICA

IPL

coincided with the Indian general elections 2009 Indias central government refused to provide security by Indian paramilitary forces. The franchises were not ready to break their bond with players by postponing the date. Organizers were not ready to incur loss by not holding the matches.

IT WAS AN INTELLIGENT DECISION

It

was not good to take chance with the security concerns after the Mumbai terrorist attack &attack on Srilankan cricket team in Pakistan. It was not justified to lose the stake money invested by the franchises & the broadcasters.

IPL SUCCESS IS DRIVEN BY QUALITY AND NOT JUST BY MONEY Holding of ipl in India would not have brought anything positive to the government as well as the franchise ,if any security incident happened during the matches. India would have lost its reputation regarding the security & would also have affected the common wealth game which is planned to be held in Delhi in the year 2010.

CONCLUSION
IPL was sponsored in southafrica successfully. It was a sigh of relief for India which could not ensure security concern for the tournament, and also BCCI earned the money by holding the matches in time. It was able to retain its popularity by entertaining the fans all across the world. So the decision was justified
