All topics will not be covered in-depth. Instructors will focus on the topics that are of interest to most attendees.
Introductory discussion of expectations relative to slabon-ground performance, serviceability, and reference documents; owner, local market, site-specific, and implied criteria Engineering considerations, loads, and soil support systems and materials, including concrete mixture proportioning Moisture emission and curling considerations Slab-on-ground thickness design. Design examples for distributed, rack post, and lift truck loading; reasonable assumptions when you dont know Designing for shrinkage: joint spacing, reinforcing options, post-tensioned design example, and minimizing restraints to movement Floor joints and load transfer Reinforcing: conventional, welded wire, and fibers Surface tolerances Curing Plans and specifications: what the engineer should provide and what the contractor should expect Preconstruction coordination meeting Preparation of and placing and finishing slabs-on-ground Problem recognition

Two of the following will be your instructors: Barry E. Foreman, PE, Assistant Vice President, TranSystems, York, PA, is a structural engineer with over 30 years of experience in the design of industrial floors. He was previously a Partner in the design firm of St. Onge Ruff and Associates. Foreman provides slab design, construction, forensic, and concrete mixture design consulting services.

Greg K. Fricks, The Fricks Company, Fort Worth, TX, specializes in flat, abrasion, and impact-resistant concrete floors for food and industrial distribution. He has over 20 years of experience in concrete floor slab construction, specializing in shrinkage-compensating concrete floors, dry-shake aggregate surface hardeners, and bonded topping floors. Jerry A. Holland, PE, FACI, Director, Design Services, Structural Services Inc., Atlanta, GA, has 35 years of experience in design, construction, and troubleshooting concrete materials, floors, pavements, other structures, and related geotechnical problems. James Loper is a licensed professional engineer and currently serves as the Structural Engineering Discipline Director for Jacobs Engineering in Arlington, VA. During his 22-year career, he has been involved in a wide range of design, construction, and troubleshooting projects while employed at Lockwood Greene Engineers, Bekaert Corporation, and VSL. Arthur W. McKinney, PE, SE, FACEC, LEED AP, is a practicing Structural Engineer with 40 years of design experience, including over 100,000,000 square feet of industrial floors. McKinney is Chief Executive Officer of McKinney and Company, Ashland, VA. Richard E. Smith, Vice President and General Manager, Structural Services, Inc., Dallas, TX, has experience in the design, construction, and evaluation of high-performance industrial floors and pavements.

Substitutions are accepted at any time. If your substitute qualifies at a different registration fee, a credit or surcharge may apply. If you cannot attend the seminar, please notify the ACI Seminar Registrar at 248-8483815 immediately. If you notify us 7 or more working days before the seminar, we will refund your registration fee. If you notify us that you cannot attend within 3 to 6 working days before the seminar, we will issue you an ACI Credit for the full amount of your registration fee that you may redeem for any future ACI seminar, product, or service. If you notify us that you cannot attend less than 3 working days before the seminar date, we will issue you an ACI Credit minus a $75 administrative fee. Confirmed participants who do not attend are liable for the entire fee unless we are notified in advance of the seminar date that you cannot attend. If ACI cancels a seminar due to insufficient enrollment, your registration fee will be refunded. ACI is not responsible for any incidental or consequential damages such as nonrefundable airfare.
