Heritage Open Days celebrate what makes local communities and neighbourhoods special.

They are run each year over four days in September and provide an opportunity to celebrate Englands fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public. The events allow members of the public to enjoy tours, events and activities and see local history come to life. The programme is managed by the Heritage Open Days National Partnership and funded by English Heritage. The days are also supported by a network of volunteers making the event Englands biggest voluntary cultural event. The mission Church was founded to serve the residents of the newly built Westinghouse Village and the iron chapel was opened in 1904. The demolition of the Trafford Park Village late 1970s and early 1980s left St Antonys without a resident population and the Parish was adapted to serve as the UKs first and only Industrial Chaplaincy. Sadly the church closed in 2009 however we will be opening its doors on these two days and inviting you to explore the inside of the Church and take a look at its history. For the first time, St. Antonys Centre will be taking part in the Heritage Open Day events. On Friday 7th September between 10am and 4pm and Sunday 9th September between 10am and 2pm, we will be opening St. Antonys RC Church to allow the general public access to this unique Tin Tabernacle. Admission is free of charge and refreshments will be served in the Centre for a small charge. For more information call 0161 848 9173.
