    Write an equation for each. Remember, an equation has two variables! Water is being drained out of a tank.

    The average rate of change is -10 cubic feet per minute. There is 200 cubic feet of water in the tank right now.

    An outboard motor on a small boat has a 12 liter gas tank. The average rate of change is -2 liters per hour when the boat is running.

    After a recent snowfall, the snow on the ground is melting at 0.01 inches per minute. Currently there are 4 inches of snow on the ground.

    The population of Pittsburgh, Penn. is 1679 thousand people. The average rate of change is -3.7 thousand people per year.

    You find a shirt at a store. It is $2 off the regular price. You decide to buy 3 of them. Write an equation that gives the total cost (C) based on the regular price (R).

    Showstopper allows you to rent movies for 5 each. Big Ticket allows you to rent movies for 2 each, plus a 10 dollar one time joining fee. a. Write an equation for the cost (C) based on the number of movies you rent (M) from each company.

    b. If you rent 3 movies, which company is cheaper?
