    The 2nd Annual Jeffrey Wells Memorial Hike will take place on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at the Haystack Mountain Trailhead in Lake Placid, New York to honor Jeffrey Wells who graduated from UNH with a degree in forestry and worked as a forester for 20 years. A scholarship fund has been established in his name at UNH for second year forestry students. Participants are asked to donate a minimum of $10 per hiker or $25 per family to the scholarship fund in his memory. After the hike, attendees are invited to a wine and spirits tasting event from 3-6pm at The Smoking Cork store in Lake Placid.

    Jeff Wells graduated from the University of New Hampshire (UNH), Thompson School of Applied Science in 1981 with a degree in forestry. He worked as a forester for 20 years in the Adirondacks, and owned and operated the Stone Wells B&B in Ticonderoga. Jeff went on to earn his bachelors degree in education and taught forestry at Sugar River Valley Regional Tech Center in Newport, NH. Jeff truly WALKED through life. Please join us in remembering Jeff surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature which he loved so much.

    Place/Time
    Haystack Mtn Trailhead, Route 86, West of Lake Placid, NY [1.4mi West of junction with Old Military Road] 2.5mi moderate hike to dam; another 0.8mi climb to summit Please arrive between 10am and 11am to register and hand in scholarship donations. Come prepared with water, snacks, and appropriate clothes, shoes, and rain gear. A scholarship fund has been established in Jeffs name at 10/01/53 03/25/11 UNH for second year forestry students. The scholarship will be awarded annually based on financial need and academic merit. www.thompsonschool.unh.edu The family is suggesting a minimum donation of $10 per hiker; or $25 for a family of 4. If you are unable to attend the memorial hike due to distance or ability, consider sponsoring someone. Checks should be payable to UNH Foundation; please write Ben Thompson Student Fund, Jeffrey Wells Scholar in the memo section. Donations are tax deductible. Donations can also be mailed to Susan Wells at 319 Mill Pond Drive, Lake Placid, NY 12946. Note: In lieu of monetary donations, please consider donating your time to help at the registration table, or donating water or snacks for the hikers.

    While in Lake Placid on Sunday, be sure to stop by Jessies store, The Smoking Cork, for their wine and spirits tasting event from 3pm-6pm. The Smoking Cork is located in the Alpine Mall on Main Street. Jeffs family hopes to see you there!
