Explain social barriers, restrictions, and obstacles that these historical figures had to overcome and describe how they overcame them. Students a. understand and use technology systems b. select and use applications effectively and productively Lesson Overview: This is the culminating lesson for all the American Heroes studied throughout the year. The Students will work in partners to create a digital video that tell about their Hero, the obstacles they overcame to be great, and their contributions to American.

Essential Questions: 1. What obstacles did your Hero overcome to become great? 2. What contributions did your hero make that we still see today? Duration: 2 weeks ( 1 hour blocks) Procedures: Week 1 Day 1: Introduce the project to the students. Show students a sample video created by the teacher. The students can use this as a reference as they create their videos. Day 2: Discuss as a group obstacles the heroes had to overcome to be great. Make and anchor chart for the students to refer to as they work. Show students how to put information on a Power Point slide and save it as a .jpeg Day 3: Assign partners. Allow students to begin using Cobb Virtual Library to get information on their Hero. Day 4: Show a sample storyboard. Show students where they can locate the resource kit on the student drive. Allow students to explore resource kit and begin creating their story board. Day 5: continue working on Story boards Week 2 Day 1: In the first 15 minutes allow students to finish up storyboards. Last 45 minutes go to the media center for a lesson on using Movie Maker to create a video. Allow the students to work on their videos at the end of the lesson. Day 2: Allow students to work on video. Day 3: Finish up videos Day 4: Movie Festival (students present videos) Day 5: Movie Festival (students present video) Assessment: Students will be graded on a rubric by their peers as well as the teacher. The students will be graded on their story board and Final Video.
