A missing book had found its way to the boxcar childrens house. They want to find out where it belongs in the library. They know the book should have a spine label like the one show below, but someone has ripped it off. Who would do that and way?

Spine Label 398.2 is the Dewey Number MAN are the first 3 letters of the authors last name.

First things first


The kids decide to head to the school library to talk to the media specialist Mrs. Reece, but when they get there she is no where to be found. All they find is a bookmark with 10 categories on it. What are these categories, Violet wonders, and how do they fit in the media center? The children decide to do some research. They discover these categories are part of the Dewey Decimal System.

What is the Dewey Decimal System


The Dewey Decimal system was developed by Melvil Dewey in 1876. Dewey developed this system to help organize the contents of the library This system gives each book a specific spot on the shelf based on what the book is about.

The Boxcar Children need your help


After some research the children found out what each classification meant and some books you might find in each sections. They want your help in finding where it should go back on the shelf. This is the missing books they discovered.
