Corinne Pennock CI 403 Artifact Reflection

I have chosen this artifact for the Assessment standard because it describes a teacher that understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The knowledge indicator that corresponds with this particular artifact and standard is: 29H. understands the importance of the relationship between assessment and instruction in planning. The performance indicator that corresponds with this particular artifact and standard is: 29K. plans and models use of comprehension strategies before, during, and after reading of text. This particular artifact was chosen for the fact that it is my way of using formative assessment in my classroom by taking a quiz before a unit in order to gage where my students need more instruction. The artifact addresses my indicators through the fact that this particular artifact is a pre-quiz in order to see what my students already know and what they do not know. After receiving the answers from this quiz I can plan my unit accordingly to their responses. My performance indicator is represented by this artifact for similar reasons that it addresses the knowledge indicator, I modeling the use of the comprehension of my students before they start the reading of the units text. This artifact demonstrates my growth and development as a teacher due to the fact that as I know look to revise it after receiving new information in my education classes, I see that it does not accurately measure what I would like it measure. I now see that to accurately measure for prior knowledge, I shouldnt look to see if the students know facts but rather concepts and significance of events. I do have a couple of questions that assess their knowledge of events and their significance but it should be the whole pre-quiz. This demonstrates my growth and development because I am able to reflect on artifacts that I have created in the past and admit that they need improvement. I believe that knowing that you will never be a perfect teacher demonstrates growth and development everyday.
