Cooperating School: Sagay National High School

TARGET:
At the end of this activity, we will be skillful in designing a process-
oriented performance assessment.

MAP:
After your observation experience you now have deeply and
principled understanding of the concepts of authentic assessment used in the
classroom. You can now go through the process of designing performance
assessment by following these steps:

1. Visit a class and identify performance-based activities.

2. Choose one performance-based activity and study its process.
3. Design a performance-based assessment plan for the activity you have
chosen.
4. Collect samples of performance-based tools.
5. Reflect on your experience.
TOOLS:
As you observed the class, note down your significant observation of the
performance-based activity in the classroom, describe in bullets, the performance-
based activity you observed.

OBSERVATION NOTES
Name of the School Observed: Sagay National High School
School Address: Sagay City, Negros Occidental
Date of Visit: 02/18/20
Grade Level: Grade 10
Subject Matter: Assembling and Disassembling Electric Fan
Subject Area: Electronic Product Assessment Services (EPAS)
 The performance-based activity correlates with the learning objectives.
 Performance- Based assessment create meaningful learning and triggers the
interest of the students to do the task.
 The rubrics was given before the task and serve as a guide for giving grades.
 The task was done by group.
 The task was given after the instruction and the instruction was clear and easy
to understand.
 Process in doing the task was clearly observed
 The Performance- Based Assessment was successfully utilized and caters the
multiple intelligences of the learners.

Based on your observation make a checklist of the important things you

wish to consider in your performance-based assessment plan.

MY CHECKLIST
 I need to identify first the goal of the assessment
 There must be a challenge to each student to use their higher order
thinking skills in performing the task.
 There must be an appropriate common course standard to be
addressed in the prepared performance based assessment.
 The assessment should be reviewed and the learning gaps should be
identified.
 The scenario should be designed were, the setting, the role, audience,
time frame, and the product.
 and created materials depending on the topic.

MY PROCESS-ORIENTED ASSESSMENT PLAN

Name of School: Sagay National High School
School Address:
Grade Level: Section:
Subject Area: Electronic Product
Assessment Services (EPAS) Subject Matter:
What are the best features of my process-oriented performance assessment
design?
The best feature of our process-oriented performance assessment design are
the ff.:
 It has a clear and appropriate learning targets, which consists all domains
of learning
 It measures what intends to measure
 Rubrics effectively evaluates the actual and observable performance of
essential skills of the students
 It has a clear 4 specific instructions.
 Correlate to the learning objectives.
 It has procedures and guidelines to be followed.
 It must be interesting and enjoyable.

What specific conditions are necessary for a successful use of our necessary
of my process-oriented performance assessment design?
- To have a successful use of our process-oriented performance assessment
design, the task given should be based on the learning objectives. The instruction
should be specific and clear to avoid confusion to the learners. It must have a scoring
rubrics so that the students will be able to improve their performance and reach the
teachers expected outcome in a given task. It also sense s our guidelines to make
sure that our judgements are accurate and fair.
What basic points should the user of this design considers?
The basic points the user of this design considers are the ff.:
 The activity or task design must be aligned in the learning objectives.
 The user will consider the strength and weaknesses of the student’s
because not all students are expert on the task.
 The user must determine the specific purpose and target of this
assessment.
 Consider the development of learning domains: the cognitive,
psychomotor, and affective domain in a process – oriented task.
 The activity must be done on the allotted time.

ANALYSIS:
Do you think your originally designed process-oriented performance
assessment can appropriately assess the teacher’s learning objective? Why or
why not?

- Yes, because it is based on the teacher’s learning objectives and it has

competencies that considered all domains of learning.

Why do teachers need to give attention to the students’ process-oriented

tasks? Why they need to assess them?

- The teachers need to give attention to the student’s process oriented

task to see how well the students perform the given task using their prior knowledge.
Giving attention on student’s process tasks benefits both the teacher and the students.
Teacher need to monitor student’s performance to determine their strength and
weaknesses and to provide feedback The teachers need to assess the entire
performance in order to measure the ability and behavior of the students towards their
peer in the activity. The students will be able to improve their performance and be
motivated to do their work.

In what conditions can the process-oriented performance assessment be

used more appropriately?

The process-oriented performance assessment is used appropriately in these

conditions: Process –oriented performance assessment requires higher order thinking
skills. It must have the purpose and learning competencies considering the 3 domains
of learning. The instruction must be clearly stated and the scoring rubrics must have a
specific indicator to help the students improve their performance. The task also must be
related to a real-world context. And in making a process- oriented task the level of
understanding and their capacity to do them must be put into considerations.

REFLECTION:
Write your personal reflection of thoughts and feelings about your personal
strategies for making your efforts successful in this part of your FS.

In order to finish this Field Study, I need a lot of time to compose an answer to
the different questions in each episode. I need to research in order for me to gather
some ideas on how to answer it. It’s not easy to answer directly, it needs to simulate
idea that has connection to the question and it should be well-organized. After
answering this Field Study, I had realized that it is important for a teacher to be
observant enough to his/her learner for the teacher to be aware of his/her student’s
needs, interest, strengths and weaknesses so that the teacher can give appropriate, fair
and effective assessment tools. As a future educator, I should bear in mind the equality
of each students, I should also be knowledgeable and skillful enough to what is/are
appropriate.

Rasonable, Ivy Marie A.

This field study broadened my understanding on the field of teaching. I perceived

the significant role of the teacher in assessment. Learners inside the classroom differ
from each other. In order to be an effective educator the teacher must provide accurate
and effective assessment tools to the students to address their needs and motivate
them to learn. The strategies used in assessment must be realistic and relevant to the
subject matter to give further understanding of the topic. Group activities must be in
well-organized for better learning outcome. The teacher should be well-rounded,
resourceful and diligent in giving appropriate assessments to the learners. Sometimes it
is necessary to adjust instructions and learning activities for the benefits of the learners.
Patient is necessary to handle the students specially to the slow learners.

To be an educator is not easy, it takes so much effort and sacrifices, and

dedication to teach the students to achieve better learning outcomes. However, it is a
fulfillment to see the student’s progress in their performance.

Mahinay, Mailyn A.

Doing this FS need lots of effort to make it successful, as teachers to be I need to

make an assessment that is suitable to my students. assessment that help me see the
learning and the gaps of the student, assessment that is goal oriented that will discover
and enhance the knowledge and skills of the students. Traditional assessment is useful
but it will become more effective to the learners when it will be combined with the
authentic assessment. wherein learners can use their knowledge and skills to have a
valuable experience and useful outputs.

Patpat, Jean S.

As a future TLE educator, this field study made me realize that as a teacher I
play a vital role in managing a classroom and served as a facilitator to facilitate my
students while they are performing any tasks given to them also in designing and
developing process-oriented task. Wherein the task design should be precise and must
be fair, valid and reliable. It is also important that I should know to determine my
students interest, ability and learning styles so that I could be able to provide my
students appropriate assessment tools based on their skills and abilities. Also as a
teacher it is my responsibility to monitor my student skills and abilities knowing that in a
diverse group of students have a different learning styles. I should also use appropriate
and variety of strategies and methods to cater the needs of my diverse learners. To be
an educator is not an easy job but a noble profession. Also I should possess the
passion to teach. So to be a TLE educator I should be knowledgeable and skillful
enough in my field of teaching so that I could also produce students who are
knowledgeable, skillful and progressive.

Batulat, Marie C.

Field study 5 is all about learning Assessment and strategies. We were assigned
to observe the teacher’s assessment and strategies in teaching. During my observation
in the class of grade 10-mixed section under Mr. Renato Amuan all of the things needed
for instruction were present inside the classroom. Some of the students are participative
and answer the question asked by the teacher, however there are some students where
just talking at the back.

As a future educator, I learned that a classroom which is free from distraction and
is well managed by the teacher-in-charge can create an environment that is conducive
to learning. It promotes focus and interest which can encourage students to perform
well inside the classroom. Also as a future educator I should use a variety of
assessment tools in assessing the students to have a comparative data that provides
valuable information on how well the students are meeting the learning outcomes.
